Milli Vanilli

Did you actually care when you heard they were lip synching? I was quite young at the time and thought their songs were good and catchy. I really didn't even care that it wasn't them.

I didn't care because I was never a real fan. They were not only lip-syncing, it wasn't even Rob and Fag singing. It's bad enough to lip-sync, but when you're not even lip-syncing to your own music, that's just plain wrong. When they were caught, they should've just kept their mouths shut and not said anything about it not being them singing. No one would've really cared. Look at Britney Spears. She can't sing at all and her shit music stills sells millions.

it's true that they should have not said they never even sang. that makes things so much worse but i still didn't care for some reason.

by the way, rob and fag. that's funny!

Did u get The rob and fab album they released i early 90's? I got it, "land of the free" is a real nice track actually!

I also have the second album without Rob and fab but still with the original voices! It's called "the real milli vanilli" and a few of the tracks r good! "keep on running" woulda been huge anywhere i swear and "tell me where it hurts" (with Diane warren writing credits) and "crazy cane" being good too!

I liked some of their stuff, though their image is unintentionally hilairious! Their videos were too (I have a video collection and "baby don't forget my no." is so funny!).....

Songs I like:-

"Can't u feel my love"
"boy in the tree" (funny title)
"Baby don't forget my no"
"More than u'll ever know"
"Girl I'm gonna miss you"
"blame it on the rain"

Also the remixes i got included on the cd really r killer! Very dated sounding now but were quite hard back then.....always worth a listen i say! biggrin

I thought it was unfair that the producer released an album called "the real milli vanilli" using the original voices and people on the cover, the producer really rubbed Rob and Fab's noses in it! That was very uncalled 4 but album bombed anyway! Rare as fuck now too!

Basically after the "scandal", the original producer ("that dickhead Fab Farian") decided to announce to the world that he did not need rob and fab to sell his records.....so he used the original guys and backing vocalists and put them on the "real milli vanilli" cover and released the album! As I said in my other thread, the first 3 tracks r quite good, and "keep on running" is easily one of their best tracks, but rest of album is really piss poor, and i mean really bad!

"keep on running" was a big hit in Germany though! I did not and do not care about the scandal, but Rob really did seem like a twat though (I know it is trajic that he committed suiside and no way did he deserve the sort of hate and ridicule he and Fab got.....Fab seems cool though!)

i don't think they deserved to be punished and ridiculed the way they were. they were basically set up and then that ass hole producer farian "outed" them. what a dick! i wonder how he felt after one of them committed suicide?

The story really is sad and didn't Fab Farian actually confirm that their voiced were not used? I knew that they got caught lypsyncing at an mtv concert, but that was just lypsyncing though! No one really cared about that i dont think? then Fab Farian spoke out officially.....I think that is roughly right?

As is fab thought he could do it without them? Though the second album, bar first 3 tracks is so bloody rubbish that even with Rob and Fab I could only c the first 2 tracks making big.....which they would of! That is what is so annnoying! "keep on running" woulda bee huge as would be the mid tempo "tell me where it hurts".....after that though they woulda gone quietly as pop music changed.....but those 2 I mentioned were dying to be hits!

I didn't care because I thought the music was horrible anyway.

I was floored that they won Grammys for that crap.

Same goes for the SPice Girls.

i was a big fan of theirs (in fact, i was the only girl in my entire 5th grade class who didn't like nkotb and liked those dudes instead lol), and when i heard that they lip-synced, at first i was shocked but then i just didn't give a crap. i still like that album.

girl you know it's--girl you know it's--girl you know it's--...

i love milli vanilli, they were just so great.fab and rob were the greatest musical pair the world was abruptly robbed of.i think the public didnt need to know the truth about them being phony.they were great looking not to mention their magnetic stage presence and charisma.
it is indeed sad that milli vanilli would forever be remembered as the greatest musical deception of our time rather than the beautiful nostalgia this two gentlemen blessed our hearts and our idea of pop idolatry with.

The controversy with MV was that they use "ghost"singers in their studio recordings, so they never really sang at all, right? I mean, it was more than just singing to a back-up track that they actually recorded.

To be honest, I was never really a MV fan, but I saw this Behind the Music episode that made me sympathize with their situation. I mean they were young, poor and seemed to have "sold their souls" to the devil to make something of their lives. Then when all was said and done, those two guys were left to deal with the consequences, without any support from the people who exploited them and were equally responsible deceiving the public.

I also think it was very, very sad that "Ron?" died of a drug overdose. He just couldn't seem to turn his life around. Fab has definitely struggled but now seems to having some success as a DJ and a singer.
