Was "A momentary lapse of reason" that bad? All i here about this floyd album is that its too "POP" because Waters broke from the group after "Final Cut" And sure Gilmours song writing does suck on some of the tracks but is it really that bad? Tracks like "Learning to fly" "Sorrow" and "Yet another movie, Round and Round" make this a great floyd album i think Final Cut was actually worst then this one

I think you're right on - it's a good album. Everybody wanted to hate it because Roger Waters wasn't involved, yet it had some very good tracks - especially On the Turning Away.
It sounds a bit dated, I think a remastering would help. Or has it been remastered? I still have the original CD and it sounds pretty poor. But musically, I think it's very good. And I have to agree w/ you on The Final Cut... that is a waste of space. It's called Roger Water's ego getting the best of him... something which he has repeated endlessly in his solo career.

I completely agree with you. Lapse is a great album. Gilmores riffs are incredible. The lyrics are deeper than some of Floyds earlier works; less talk about the war and all. Lapse ranks as one of those records I want with me if Im trapped on a deserted island.

You're on a Pink Floyd kick today?
I think you nailed it. It's because Roger Waters was gone, so it's lacking of some of the substance. Still, it has the sound, if that's what's important (and they were actually called The Pink Floyd Sound long ago, weren't they?). I just heard The Final Cut recently and I thought it was pretty good. I lean more towards songwriting than the sound, though. It's tough for bands to go on when they've lost primary members. Pink Floyd did it once, but they changed radically, so it worked. I don't think they changed their style much for Momentary... so it just seemed like watered down Floyd to many. Check this song out at:

I used to really like this album, especially "Learning to Fly". In fact, I had forgotten about it totally until I saw this thread because I had it a long time ago on cassette and just never replaced it with a CD later.
Well, there's one more on my list to buy, or re-buy. I have to get it just for the Gilmour factor alone. "I saw a woman with major Hammer pants on the subway a few weeks ago and totally thought of you." - sextonseven
