I love Annie Lennox to bits so almost everything she does is tops in my book.

Except that last album of her and her Oscar acceptance speech...

bored and zzz

i loved her Oscar speech!! I thought she was very gracious and generally tickled to have won... biggrin I was yelling so loud and cheering when she won, although i would have been shocked had she lost.

Video beat was really a hidden gem. I'd go there and drool over the P videos that I couldn't afford. Did they get shut down or just go out of bizness?

A Small review....

In Beethoven she goes from being the Desperate Housewife freak (not to mention the little girl and the other persona that follow her around)to the Blond wigged singer (there is a wig moment showing how she transforms from one to the other) and starts stumbling down the block and ends up on stage for I need a man...which is just a stage like performance. Interesting that she sings this song, yet looks like a drag queen...sorta. She then stumbles off the stage into a car that whiskes her off to Heaven. Int he video she is living the life of the famous singer/star. Her "heaven" is fast cars, cigarretes, drinking and waking up alone with a hangover.

Shame is a seperated video. It is a true video in the music video sense. Both her and David are in it. It has a lot of computer video special effects depicting all kinds of famous people. It's kind of like a painting. David holds annie and kisses her neck. Wide Eyed girl...another stand alone...but more with the theme of identity and another wig. The video semi reminds me of King and Queen of America. Could have depicted the story better...it's ok.Seems like the starlet had a kid...just like her and can't control her...just like she's out of control. Do you want to break up? Again stays with the theme and has Annie looking all crazed out in a brown foofy housewife wig. She looks really demented. And I have no clue about the Dutch yodelers in the video. lol

I got a lover...just normal Annie in a Limo with shots of the other videos and some Eurythmics moments. Too much driving. For a song thats really image heavy, this could have been better. Like Wide Eyed girl, for some reason they decided not to go with something that could have complimented the song Put the blame on me is seperated video again. Very styleized. I like it, though it lends nothing to the meaning of the song. It's a pretty video. It may have been intended for release.

Savage... eek eek She looks fabulous in this video. It's just her in the blond wig again, but she's not singing and is just there. The video is shot quite grainy giving her a beaten old starlette look. I would imagine that much of the imagry started with this video. She's just posing...and it looks like she is just through with it all. She almost takes off the wig. The wig comes off in You have placed a chill. She confronts all of her inner demons and gets rid of them. Lots of camera spinning ala "Call my name" spinning and spinning and spinning. And fireworks. Not my favorite. But it ends a cappella with accoustic guitar and then you see her on stage in B/W with dave and she sings I need you. It's nice. It's sung in a bar just like you would think it was. Brand New Day. Ballet Dancers. It was shot on the same day as Put a little love in your heart...the xmas song she did with Al Jarreau. So when the pretty sounds come in, she's on the same stage and there is confetti falling around her. ANother pretty video, though I have no idea what arm formations her and the ballet dancers are doing...it sort of a full arm versoin of the "Hello" hand sign from Close Encounters.

Lots of clapping at the end and a very wierd song playing as the credits roll. Very 60's pop sounding.

All in all not bad. It is them in all their glory. I feel that they should have kept with the theme. I mean they had me up until Shame...which I do like, but then after that it sorta slips. The videos never go by the bad way side...they just don't live up to the potential of depicting the album visually. It starts off very promising even with the intro of her cutting the flowers and the music just brooding in the back...like you were in for something extreme.

I really don't know for sure, but I can't imagine them going out of business. It was always busy when I was in there and almost everyone I saw come out of there wasn't empty handed. Hell, I alone probably could've kept them in business. My guess is they got busted.

Anx?
