Yeah. Well, watching the DVDs, he seems to do nothing for ages, then he pipes up with an out of tune solo. His slide stuff is great, though, to give the poor man a break.

Ron Wood and keith are all about GROOVE and FEEL more than technical competance.....everheard Keiths solo in 'ain't to proud to beg' off 'its only rock 'n' roll'?

True. Very true. Still, I think Keef is waaaaay ahead of Ron in the groove stakes.

Fave song?

I think I have to go for Do Do Do D (Heartbreaker)..

I wouldn't say Ronnie Wood is rubbish. He's a competent sideman. He's not in the same league as Brian Jones or Mick Taylor.
There are three sides to every story. My side, your side, and the truth. And no one is lying. Memories shared serve each one differently

Mick Taylor is the best guitar player the stones ever had.....by some margin..... By the way, did you ever hear the story that when keith and Mick were quarreling in the 80's, Mick wanted to bring in Joe Satriani to replace Keith? eek
Satch was doing guitar duties on Micks solo tour at the time.
Talk about a combination that would NEVER have worked.....Satch in the stones UGGGGGHHHHH
I do not think the rest of the stones would have done it anyway.....

Question: who plays the rhythm guitar on "Hot Stuff"...is that Keef?

And yes, the "Gimme Shelter" intro is subtlely powerful. It's perfect.
This post not for the wimp contingent. All whiny wusses avert your eyes.

Funny you mention the Satch thing, cos I was just reading a Stones biog, and it was the first I heard of him playing with Jagger. Satch with the Stones would be the bigger mismatch in musical history.

I think Mick Taylor is the best guitarist the Stones have had.

Have any of you heard any of his post-Stones output? I'm curious to know if it's any good or not....?

I heard his first solo album. He is not much of a song writer. Guitar playing was stellar , as you would imagine.

Favourite album is Beggars Banquet and i think its their best from start to finish. My second fave is Goats Head Soup, real sleazy rock n roll with some great ballads in there too. Exile is overrated with too much filler, the skip button always comes in handy.

I've seen some concert footage from the mid-seventies and Mick was the best guitarist the Stones ever had. It was also at the height of the heroin, party days and he couldn't hang after the tour. He went on to do some other music but I've never heard any of it.

Beggars Banquet is definitely my top Stones album, with Led it Bleed closely behind. Brilliant stuff. Not really a fan of any of the stuff with Ron Wood though.

Ronnie Wood is the ultimate rock 'n' roll guitar player,I believe he plays better solo guitar than Keith does,,,(not talkin' rhythm guitar here)
He used to be great in the Faces, and I believe he still got what it takes to be a Stone:attitude.Technically he might not be Steve Vai or Joe Satriani,to name a few,but he still grooves like the best...

Surely not...?

Angus Young (AC/DC) and Slash are what I would call unltimate Rock n Roll guitarists.....I don't think their style would fit the Stones, of course, but there are TONS of better RnR guitarists than Ronnie. I reckon he only got the gig cos he always looked like he was in the Stones anyway - in other words, he looks the part, but he doesn't sound the part....

When you play in the Stones, the ultimate R&R band, you're one of the ultimate guitar players!Yes I love Angus,Yes I love Slash, but they just wouldn't fit in the Stones..If Ronnie wasn't any good,he wouldn't be playing rock 'n' roll for the past 40 years, would he?

Favourite Stones Album: Sticky Fingers. On guitar, Mick Taylor. Keith Richards is a Minimalist Genius Rhythm guitarist and will be remembered for this longer than any other guitarist I can think of.
"Get Your Ya Ya's out", is another favourite of the 'Stones.
Ron Wood, played on The 1st STEREO record ever made,1960
called "TRUTH". Jeff Beck band, featuring Rod Stewart, vocals, Ronnie on rhythm, and of course JEFF BECK,who by the way was inducted into the Rock & Roll hall of Fame in 1965.
~PClinuxOS~ yes I've been here longer than I care to remember, ... I drop in from time to time, ... thumbs up!

Judging by the wrinkles and creases on his face, I wouldn't rule it out as a possibility...

lol

By the way, I still think Ronnie's a rubbish lead guitarist.

Keith is a sloppy player, sometimes, maybe down to drink/ drugs or whatever, but when he is on form, he is truly original and brings that much-mentioned FEEL to the table. Ronnie's guitar sound on stage is as thin and weedy as he is himself.

nana O.K., Jeff Beck, on The Letterman show : "So you were inducted into The R&RHOF.With The Yarbird's ..., in 1965, when you visited U.S. ?
Beck ; "yeh, that's right."
I just watched it again, but hey!, i'm gonna look into this further, maybe since 1965 the rules have changed.deal
nod booty!

cool Getting back on thread Ron Wood is in my opinion a great Slide guitarist, but i aint heard him play lead or rhythm nearly as well, which is curious as Slide Guitar takes a lot of talent and work. That's it.
