PET SOUNDS..GREATEST ALBUM EVER RELEASED? so is "pet sounds" by brian wilson(with a bit of help from the beach boys and tony asher) the greatest album ever released?...my personnal view is it is ONE of the best albums ever, in my top ten, but in my view "sign o the times" is the greatest album ever released. it covers all kinds of music brilliantly, it has a rawness to it and shows a genius at the peak of his powers.

I could care less what critics like. They're opinion is no more important than yours or mine. I do happen to cherish Pet Sounds though. There's a lot of joy in that record. It never fails to make me smile and sing along. I remember having one of those "if you were stranded on an island and could only have 5 albums" conversations with a friend of mine, and he said he'd definitely include a Beach Boy's album so that he would have something happy to listen to.
I wouldn't say it's the greatest album ever. I don't think any album deserves such a title. I do love it, though.

i dont agree with you about music critics, yes some dont know their arse from their elbow but a lot of them know what they are talking about, if you took a poll of the best albums ever from the general public, you would end up with a pile of shit, britney spears, robbie williams, usher, that type of crap would be at the top, in general, most people wouldnt know good music if it slapped them in the face so i would much rather listen to people who actually know what they are talking about.

Pet Sounds is a really nice album, but I'm going to take a leap here and suggest that it's a wee bit overrated to be named the #1 album of all time.
Of course, I really don't think that album exists. It's a different album to different people. I've seen magazines list Never Mind the Bollocks as the best album of all time. I've seen magazines list Sgt. Pepper. I've seen magazines list Nevermind and OK Computer. Magazines don't know!!!

I'll be honest, pick up the album today for the first time, and out of its historical context, it'd kind of a snoozer. There, I said it! Also, Sgt. Pepper isn't anywhere near psychedelic!!!
