My ultra fabulous Tori Amos cd projects! Like I mentioned on the other thread, I cannot believe the name of Tori's new album. Last year around this time, I started filling in the gaps in my Tori collection. When I got done around Christmas time, I made a couple sets, one of b-sides and one of greatest hits. And to be clever, I called the b-sides collection, "The Beekeeper". So naturally when I found out that she has a new album coming out and what the title was, I flipped out. I was listening to her music and reading about her so much last year that at times I felt like I was becoming her songs. I actually understood what she was singing about for the first time, lol. So I must've psychically tapped into her creative process somehow. j/k. But it's fun to imagine.
So anyway, here's what I came up with. I just updated it to include the extra songs from 'Scarlet's Hidden Treasures'. It was pretty close to this already, just with a little tweaking. The years don't line up exactly, but I tried to keep it roughly chronological. It makes sense and sounds great as you're listening through it too. I believe that every song that she's done that hasn't been included on an album is on this set. Here's the cover... Here's the back... And here's what one of the discs looks like: Pretty groovy huh?

Also, when her "Tales of a Librarian" set came out last year, I decided to make my own version of that. I really love it the way it is. I thought it was super ambitious of her to rework all of those songs. But it could've easily been 2 discs. She has plenty of singles that didn't make it onto 'Librarian'. So that's what I tried to do. Come up with an order that tells a story and that sounds good, like her own version does. I left the first disc intact. The second collects all the stuff not included and a few extras. I tried to use edits and the versions that were on singles to make them slightly different than what's on the album. Plus, you can fit on more songs that way.
So here's the front (nothing changed): Here's the back: Here's the inlay: And here's what the discs look like:

The versions I used on the 2nd disc are:
1. Pretty Good Year - album version 2. Caught a Lite Sneeze - single edit 3. Cruel - Shady Feline version 4. The Waitress - album version (not a single, but released on a sampler) 5. Concertina - single remix 6. China - custom fade in 7. Taxi Ride - radio edit 8. Past the Mission - album version 9. Talula - Tornado edit 10. Strange Little Girl - radio edit 11. Glory of the 80's - album version 12. Raspberry Swirl - Lip Gloss version 13. In the Springtime of His Voodoo - Hasbrouck Heights edit 14. Blue Skies - BT single edit 15. Don't Make Me Come To Vegas - Timo Maas custom edit 16. Heart of Gold - promo edit 17. 1,000 Oceans - album version 18. A Sorta Fairytale - radio edit 19. Hey Jupiter - The Dakota mix 20. Putting the Damage On - Twilight mix [Edited 11/2/04 0:20am]

And I just realized there are some mistakes in my artwork. But these were done over a year ago and I think my first drafts. On the b-sides set, "Blue Skies" and "Voodoo" should be replaced by the remix of Father Lucifer. And on the 2nd disc of "Librarian", "Sugar" and "Twinkle" are replaced by "Don't Make Me Come To Vegas" and "Heart of Gold". My bad. But you get the idea anyway. Jeez, I can't even get my corrections right. [Edited 11/2/04 0:32am]

Wow, that's really cool! I wonder if I have all her bsides? I've never listed them all like that, so who knows! I'm sure I have most of them.
Beautiful artwork! The Tornado version of Talula is the best!!! And I LOVE the Sandwich Song. I know what you mean about studying someone's work and getting really in tune with it. Back in 94ish I took a jazz history class and wrote my term paper on Eric Leeds. I listened to everything I had with him on it, outtakes, live songs with Prince, Family demos, The Family's debut at First Ave... Then the cool thing is shortly after I turned in the paper, Sheila E was touring with the E Train and I saw them in a small club, front row! Anywho, back to Tori. Love the Labrynth on the disc and the picture of the book! You've very creative.

I did my own collection a while back, called Upside Down. I'll have to dig it out to post my own track listing, but I did it in such a way that the third disc is all covers (called Covergirls ) I've been planning on doing a fourth disc, but just haven't had the time. Anyhoo, thanks for sharing. I always enjoy seeing people's different takes on this stuff. By the way, where are "Abbey Road", "Om La Boomleigh", "When I Was Dreaming" and "Paradiso Purduto" from? I don't have these tracks. Do not hurry yourself in your spirit to become offended, for the taking of offense is what rests in the bosom of the stupid ones. (Ecclesiastes 7:9)

Paradiso Perduto is from the "Great Expectations" soundtrack. The rest are from radio sessions I believe.

Okay, here's the set I did a few years back. Keep in mind that I did this before Scarlet's Walk came out, and I'm not including the Live disc that I was also working on at the time. I also purposely exluded any remixes, to give each one more the feel of a true album (each was designed where they could fall squarly between albums. Disc 1 falls between LE and UTP, while disc 2 falls betweem BFP and FTCH. The covers disc would probably best fall before or after SLG, depending on your tastes) :
Upside Down: The Bee Sides, Volume 1 1. The Pool 2. Upside Down 3. Mary 4. Sugar 5. Sister Janet 6. Take To The Sky 7. Sweet Dreams 8. Home On The Range- Cherokee Edition 9. Humpty Dumpty 10. Flying Dutchman 11. Ode To The Banana King, Part 1 12. Here, In My Head 13. Daisy Dead Petals 14. Honey 15. Black Swan 16. Thoughts 17. All The Girls Hate Her 18. Over It 19. Song For Eric Butterfiles & Samurais: The Bee Sides, Volume 2 1. Finn (intro) 2. Siren 3. Butterfly 4. Frog On My Toe 5. Sister Named Desire 6. Alamo 7. Never Seen Blue 8. Beulah Land 9. Cooling 10. Graveyard 11. Toodles Mr Jim 12. Hungarian Wedding Song 13. The Happy Worker 14. Blue Skies (with BT) 15. Bachelorette 16. Purple People (Christmas In Space) 17. Samurai 18. Amzing Grace/Til The Chicken 19. Merman Covergirls 1. A Case Of You 2. If 6 Was 9 3. Strange Fruit 4. Thank You 5. Angie 6. Smells Like Teen Spirit 7. Ring My Bell 8. Famous Blue Raincoat 9. I'm On Fire 10. Losing My Religion 11. Carnival 12. Do It Again 13. Down By The Seaside (with Robert Plant) 14. After All 15. Only Women Bleed 16. London Girls 17. That's What I Like, Mick (The Sandwich Song) 18. This Old Man I know a few tracks are missing, and I may work them into the lineup later, or just save them for a further compilation down the road. Haven't decided yet. Funny thing is, you're talking about how Tori's new album has the same title as your set. Well, I laughed when I saw your cover, because that's what I chose for my second disc!!! Great minds think alike, eh? Do not hurry yourself in your spirit to become offended, for the taking of offense is what rests in the bosom of the stupid ones. (Ecclesiastes 7:9)

By the way, GangstaFam/Tron, bravo on that second disc of the Tales Of A Librarian. I think we talked about that when the album first hit, but I see you actually followed through with it!! Did you use any alternate versions on disc two? Do not hurry yourself in your spirit to become offended, for the taking of offense is what rests in the bosom of the stupid ones.
