driving music

Man, I was driving home very late the othere night and the roads were clear. I'm in need of a haircut and kinda' look like the little kid in theMusicology video. So,I got the wind blowing through the woolly locks and the world feels right. My mp3 player just blasted 6through some Jesse Johnson when it happened upon Paul oakenfolds' Creamfields. And that ain't music I listen to everyday, but that shit was just perfect for that night.I started really speeding out and that cd is another one with dynamic sound and the bass just thumps. You also have the lush keyboards and the pulsating bass that I felt in my bones. That was the cool shit.

It made me think about other music I just love to drive with. This is just some of what moves me behind the wheels in those special speed demon moments:
Creamfields-oakenfold
Dirt-alice in chains
dj kicks-kruder and dorfmeister
black album-metallica
the recently revisited jay-z remix albums
midnight marauders-a tribe called quest
can't truss it-public enemy
fight the power-isley brothers
groove line-heatwave
lap dance-nerd
can u help me-jesse johnson
bare my naked soul-jesse johnson
the french connection-dj cam
if ya can't stand the beatz, git outta da kitchen-ninja tunes
modern love-bowie
this is radio clash-the clash
krush-dj krush
rock lobster-b52's
zen remix retrospective-ninja tunes
zen cd retrospective-ninja tunes
new years day-u2
irresistable bitch-prince
the chauffeur and the chauffeur(matty mix)( a sexy ass rock song!)-duran duran
annie christian(album version and live in new orleans rockin' version)
the sorceress-return to forever

Hell, there are quite a few. Pink Floyd's live version of Comfortably numb where Gilmour goes off at the end is another prime one. Dolby's "the keys to her ferrari" is another.

I always picture Travolta in Pulp[ Fiction when he's stoned and the road feels good when I do this. I don't recommend this to anyone, but it is something that makes me feel mighty good every now and again.

i remember once driving through a really deeply wooded, winding road that seemed to go on forever, and we were listening to the 22-minute version of prince's "america". it was perfect.

My all time favorite song to listen to on a road trip is "Waterfall" by The Stone Roses.

My favorite "fast driving song" in recent years has been "Xterminator" by Primal Scream.

I drove cross country with a friend and on the day we left Madonna's "Ray of Light" was released. We stopped by the wrekka stow that morning and played it over and over and over. It was a kick ass road trip, due in no small part by the accompanying soundtrack. cool

The ultimate freeway band has to be classic VH. guitar
When the sunlight strikes raindrops in the air, they act as a prism and form a rainbow. The rainbow is a division of white light into many beautiful colors. Regardless of the day, I'm glad you were born.

This song is definitely on my driving playlist! I'd say go with VH on the freeways and old-school for driving slow, where people can see you. biggrin

In the Air Tonight by Phil Collins is always so perfect at night on the freeway.

I once had a nice time driving through the mountains and trees while listening to Sade - Lovers Live and Bjork - Vespertine.

Good topic! Even though I don't drive, I think of this often-- songs that are good to drive to-- especially down a dirt road or down a long stretch of highway. When I am in a car with friends, they mostly have it on the classic rock station here in town and ROCK and ROADS go so well together. Here is my list

dream on -- Aerosmith
Come together -- Aerosmith's version
REALLY ANYTHING BY AEROSMITH

another brick in the wall- Pink Floyd

climbing up the walls - Radiohead

Sparks -- Coldplay

Lonely Avenue - Ray Charles

Little Red Corvette - Prince (anything by him!)

On the low - Hope Sandoval

Good Morning Little school girl -- Jonny Lang's version

I need a man to love, Summer Time, Flower in the sun- Janis Joplin

Black Dog - Led Zeppelin

Hot Stuff, I can't get no Satisfaction -- Rolling Stones

The Girls will Haunt You -- Torrez

Bad Luck City-- R.L. Burnside

Time of the season, Leave me be -- The Zombies

Rebel Yell - Billy Idol

Shadow Boxer -- Fiona Apple

Wild is the Wind, I put a spell on you -- Nina Simone's versions

Cherish the day-- Sade

AND PLENTLY MORE!! When these songs are played in a car, I feel as though I am in a movie and that things will go my way!
"The poets are demanding their pay..."

"I'm a radio
I'm a country station
I'm a little bit corny
I'm a wildwood flower..."

Any of that atmospheric 80's rock.....Richard marx's "repeat offender" is good 4 cars too....."satisfied" is such a good shouty "i'm gonna make it" type of song that is so good 4 jouneys at night!

Prince - The Black Album, especially Side 1. Le Grind and Cindy C turn my foot into lead. lol
Queen Latifah - U.N.I.T.Y.
Isley Brothers - Fight the Power
Luther Vandross - A House is not a Home - I know, weird driving song, but I just love the way it builds up to climax, and I love singing it at the top of my lungs when I have the car to myself. biggrin
