I never had separate components until I was grown and buying them with my own money. All I ever had growing up was table top stereos with everything in one.

I wouldn't have a table top stereo anymore. I like something that will shake the walls. biggrin

My mother had a big console stereo that had a radio, 8 track player, and turntable. It was an actual piece of furniture. The speakers were in the wood and it had a lid that covered everything up.

I always wanted the one I saw in the store....YEARS AGO.....that had flashing disco lights at the bottom and three small disco mirror balls at the top.

My late uncle had one. He had Parliament Funkadelic, Marvin Gaye, Sly & The Family Stone, Stevie's Innervisions, Saturday Night Fever, and the Superfly SDTK on 8 Track.

That's what my mother had and still has, but she doesn't use it anymore except to use it as a big table in her living room. But hers also had a black and white tv inside, and there is no lid, there are two sliding doors on the front, but no 8 track player.

Good Lord, I remember her playing Stevie's "Living For The City" at my request - over, and over, and over, and over, and over...that thing gave Songs In The Key of Life a good workout too. The Staple Singers records, Gospel records. Truly old school.

My great aunt had one of those with the TV and the sliding doors that covered it up. Her's also had sliding lids on the top that covered up the stereo. Come to think of it, her's didn't have an 8 track player either.

Faux

My father had a 1982 Sony separates system - Tape, radio, amp with equalizer and turntable on top. Still works perfectly.

I remember finding a copied tape which simply said 'Stevie Wonder - Songs In The Key of Life' on it. No tracklist or lyrics. I couldn't believe so many good songs could be on one tape. I actually cried listening to it because I was so happy. That was in about 1988 I think. I had already heard lots of 60s Stevie stuff, but this was something else!
