when they do these things, it just points out how far we've fallen. i understand that they have to get young, popular performers to perform at these things to get any interest, but seriously. christ.

hmmm You are somewhat correct. The only singers that I felt did his songs any justice was Gerald Levert, India Arie, and Stevie Wonder. As for the rest of them, I felt their performances were pretty shitty and worthless.

nod Agreed. I am in my 30's and grew up with real music. It's said to see the state of music. What's really sad is to see my boy New Edition and Boys 2 Men sounding like crap. Damn. It's a shame.

nod Yeah. His face wasn't looking right at all. I wonder what's up. I do know at one time he was battling a cocaine problem. Perhaps, this puffy face may be a result of it.

i'll rephrase that statement..Smokey's too damn old to be trying to sport the latest "IN" look...before he had the locks he had the twists when he was appearing in a commercial with (gasp and horror) B2K...if he was sporting them for years, then I'd say go for it...but this is the same man that has gone through the Fro and Jerri Curl. Next week he'll be sporting cornrolls, which should only be worn by males under 25 and wards of the prison system.(you hear me R Kelly?) at some point you need to dress and act your age.

Smokey looked fine...the man has to be in his sixties. His suit looked sharp, the locks are different, but hey he doesn't look crazy w/ them. And the drugs that he did were early in his career.

disbelief I know a sixty year old woman with beautiful locs...I guess she should put her hair in bun huh...and btw, before your hair locs, you twist your hair so that it can loc (unless you want freeform locs).....lastly...for some, wearing locs aren't about being "IN".....

nothing wrong with Smokey having locs....

The only two highlights to me was that sexy ass Gerald Levert who never does no wrong and New Edition. Stevie is always great of course. Floetry was pretty good too. But IndiaArie was auhight. She could've done better.

I didn't care for Christina Milian's performance and we don't want to talk about that one dude who I ain't never heard of before who kept hittin' those bad notes. Now on the New Edition tip the only thing that was shaky was Johnny Gill's voice on the one song. Maybe he had a cold or somethin' I don't know, but I ain't never heard him sound like that before, but that's ok.

Oh yeah, I forgot about Boys II Men. They were pretty alright to me. Their voices are still pretty much in tact.

Ya'll need to stop sweating Smokey. Let's see you whiny bastards write 4,000 songs. So WHAT if he's rocking dreads, twists or whatever. What's with the ageism? Smokey can rock any doo he wants to. He's an entertainer!
It was nice of them to honor him in that way. He's earned it. Not everything has to be all about your own personal entertainment. Sometimes shows have a purpose aside from trying to entertain your every whims. Sometimes you people are just audience members with seats at home. Don't like it? Change the channel.

i don't care about the dreads. i just think he looks artifical with a face lift. his skin was so tight he could barely smile. he couldn't even squish his eyebrows together to make a expression. if anything old folks don't need face lifts. they should stay natual and let the wrinkles form-thats not ageism. and the music was okay, but not great, cept for floetry, wonder, and gerald levert.

Agreed 100% Nobody on this board is going to write 4,000 songs. Smokey can look anyway he wants to. I wonder if some old no talent white dude would get this kind of shit from people.
