Stuff like this isn't new.

When Lil Kim and Foxy Brown were on Puff Daddy's No Way Out tour they didn't get along either. I've heard so many reports of them sabotaging each other's sets, bad mouthing each other onstage, entourage scuffles, "no eye contact" rule, etc.

But I don't think Jay-Z would stoop that low -- besides, he wanted to put on this tour.

R. Kelly doesn't like how Jay-Z receives top billing and gets more love. When R comes out a lot of times, people boo. So the mist of mace filled the air.

i know these people are being offered a ton of money but i can't imagine touring with someone i don't respect and can't stand.

Its about getting paid. They did a CD together. If they had no intentions of attempting to milk it with the followup CD "Unfinished Business", then they could have just parted company completely and let all be well. Instead, they decided to go on with a tour. At that level in the game, agreeing to accept a ton of money and not "touring with someone I don't respect and can't stand" would be career suicide. Bailing out after sponsors have put up the initial capital will get you dropped from your label as well as wreck your fanbase and possibly your career. If you don't like someone, don't make two CDs with them. Its that simple.

R.Kelly is starting to sound like the bitch that m.j. is. Its a shame, u'd think he'd be a little bit more open since he didn't have to spend NO TIME in jail for his little situations where there are many men in jail who are innocent.
I will forever love and miss you...my sweet Prince.

If the article at mtv.com is right, then I've got lots of respect for Jay-Z. He held it down with a little help from his friends. He comes across as really caring about his fans. I really think R. Kelly was pissed that the audience showed so much love for Jay-Z. He didn't want to go out like a punk so he made up the story about guns. (In the article he admits that he didn't actually see guns, but that two men motioned as they were strapped. This is post 9/11 NY. I bet MSG's security is skin tight. AND the story that Jay-Z's people maced him when he tried to return to the stage? Yeah, bet he made that up too! Now, he wants to sue Jigga Man for $75 million!? Silly hater.

Whoa, now! Slow your roll there. I don't like R's material, but he's far from talentless. Dude's got a long list of artists he's produced. Every once in a while he touches on something really good like I believe I can Fly, Fortunate (Maxwell), etc. Even though I think he's a musical simpleton and an idea/concept/style thief, he's catchy. That's why he's lasted as long as he has. Jay-Z is just a rapper, but Kelly actually plays keyboards and drums and has held his own for years as a producer. Gotta respect him for that.
Furthermore, I ain't too thrilled about the tone of that "talentless African American" comment. Tread lightly. Without us, European Americans would have nothing to steal from and claim as their own. Don't front. fro

Alright, so the 'African American' was a supefluous qualifier. I could've said 'artists', though that would be giving too much credit. 'People' perhaps?

As for R Kelly's skills, I don't doubt his popularity and longevity, I just don't think he's very good. Talent for something, yes, since he's successful. I just don't think he makes good music. In fact, I think he's crap. Playing keys and drums isn't an argument at that level. Talented if it's one of my mates from down the pub, but not enough on its own at the very top, which is where R Kelly wants to be I imagine.

Jay-Z doesn't really warrant much comment - just mediocre hip-hop that is so abundant today.

I'm in the galaxy where R Kelly and Jay-z are mediocre music artists, at best, and where there is a lack of talent in the mainstream in their respective fields.

There was a time when u didn't have to dig too deep to find brilliant, innovative artists. Artists like Stevie, Marvin, Al Green and Prince managed to be both commercial and artistically credible.

I love artists like D'Angelo but I don't for one minute think he can touch a Stevie or Marvin yet. That's not to belittle D'Angelo as he's a very talented young man. It just shows what's missing in general in this field.

For hip-hop and Jay-Z just use Eric B & Rakim or whomever u choose, Jay-z and a Kanye West (or The Roots perhaps) for the same analogy.

Excellent post. Both artist (and I use the word loosely) are a sad example of what is wrong with RnB music. They are not professional and I can't imagine something like this spilling out into public 20 years ago. It took about 10 years to find out how bad things were between Prince and The Time. People kept things on the downlow and continued to entertain.
