I bought the tickets for a Saturday show earlier in the day thinking that the tickets would sell out if I wanted closer to the showtime. I was disappointed that the theater was about half filled, so I wasn't surprised by the box office results. Jamie brought the story of Ray Charles to life and you can't look at him after five seconds and say that he does a good impersonation. His performance is worth all the accolades. It might have been a bit too long, by 15 minutes. I also enjoyed Regina King's and Keri Washington's performances as the backup singer/lover and wife respectively. Those scenes of him reliving his childhood and what happened to his brother initially scared me. Then I was tears when he blamed himself. Even the actress who played his mother had some really touching moments that made cray. She made sure that Ray took care of himself and not let anybody treat him as a 'cripple.' It was a powerful film. I heard that the demographics of the viewers were over 30. That's certainly me. I definitely plan on getting the soundtrack. "Funkyslsistah… you ain't funky at all, you just a little ol' prude"!

This movie was AMAZING. I expected it to be somewhat overrated because it has been hyped for several months now, but I wasn't disappointed in the least. I actually want to go see it again.

All this talk about Jamie winning an Oscar...don't be shocked if he doesn't. Oscar voters have a dubious history. This post not for the wimp contingent. All whiny wusses avert your eyes.

I loved the phenomenal, immortal, great Ray Charles to the end, and I love the great Jamie Foxx playing him. You don't have to wait for any "white" Oscar accolades to validate this man's powerful, moving performance of "Genius" Ray Charles -- Mr. Foxx is getting mad love, props, and will win plenty of accolades and awards from his own and probably around the universe. I even heard from critics he's on Hollywood's "A" list because of Collateral and The Ray Charles Story, and he will be able to name his own price in films in the Cruise, Washington monetary category. Jamie was always a "real" playing character cat, and after I saw footage of Mr. Charles hugging, laughing and goofing around with Jamie, I felt Ray knew he made the right decision to pick Jamie to play his life story the correct way, also, props to Mr. Taylor Hackford for directing and producing a gritty, honest, realistic, and truthful portrayal of Mr. Charles' life story. Although I am still young, I have relatives who knew Mr. Charles and this movie documentation is definitely true concerning Mr. Charles's life. Lennytunia

Actualy, thats a bullshit movie based on a bullshit book. Shit, her(Billie's) last boyfriend Mr.Louis McKay was the movie's screen-script supervisor,,that should tell you something. If you want to know about the REAL Billie Holiday who didn't looked at herself as a weepy victim(like many believes she did) and who lived her life by her OWN choices, read this book: Wishing On The Moon: The Life & Times Of Billie Holiday-By Donald Clarke This is the REAL thing. The whole truth and nothing but!
