New EnVogue

Last night I caught EnVogue on Women Rock! It was just Terry, Max and a new addition, Rhona Bennett. I thought they were pretty good. They sang four songs (Kelly Clarkson joined them on Free Your Mind) I know Cindy was preggers but not sure if she had the baby yet. All four—-including Dawn—-are supposed to be reuniting next year for a release. They use to be my favorite female group. Real women with real voices and real curves. Not little girls pretending to be grown singing about things they haven’t experienced yet. Hope they come back strong in ’05. I'm looking forward to Dawn's CD too. Anyone know status of their projects?

Hotlegs

Damn, its a shame that they could not reform with the original line up. It's a shame that the had broke up and reformed w/a new member.

In 2002, EnVogue was to open for New Edition but cancelled a few days before the tour.

Dawn does suck. I’ll never forget how cocky she was about her solo album coming out and it went no where. She’s working with her husband that supposed to be rockish and has some interesting producers on it including London Jones and a contribution by Sheila E. so that had me curious. I think she’s also on Stevie Wonder’s new album whenever that gets released. I read this a short while ago but now I can’t find the site anymore. I just hope they get good producers for the groups album.

Here's some more stuff...

The Dre Allen Project & Dawn Robinson to rock San Francisco!
The Dre Allen Project & Dawn Robinson from mega girl group En Vogue to rock San Francisco July 22nd at The Red Devil Lounge in San Francisco.

(PRWEB) July 20, 2004 -- Thursday July 22nd will be a night to remember for En Vogue & IV Xample fans alike when the front woman & front man of both groups Dawn Robinson (En Vogue) & Dre Allen (IV Xample) unveil their new band "The Dre Allen Project" at The Red Devil Lounge in San Francisco.

Coming fresh off of accolades from Billboard Magazine & Rolling Stone as the next big thing in music's new Urban Rock Alternative movement, (which some say is long overdue)the band has managed to push by the nay sayers who were initially out to say that there would be no audience for black artists to find success in an otherwise teen pop & caucasian dominated side of the music spectrum (note: Lenny Kravitz, Ben Harper, Macy Gray, or Fefe Dobson).

Dre Allen & Dawn Robinson come from success with various crossover projects & like the most successful artists of the past, artistic growth was inevitable. Now that we are breaking down the door, states Allen, we are going to show the world just how much its changed. This country has grown up alot in the past 100 years & our fans come from so many ethnic backgrounds, I cant even list them all...I've never even heard of some of them, he admits laughing.

This album & tour we are embarking on is a representation of us as people & has been showing the listeners just how much alike we are. In addition to San Francisco, The Dre Allen Project will be touring through Cardiff, Wales in the U.K.,Amsterdam, Sydney, Australia, New York, Seattle, Pheonix, San Diego, & parts of Nebraska, Utah, & Colorado.

Look for them on tour September through December as well as on their labels website www.movemakersent.com & the band site at www.dreallenproject.com.

For_Immediate_Release:

Friday July 9th was an explosive evening for the crowd that gathered in Hollywood California for the unveiling of The Dre Allen Project featuring Dawn Robinson from the multiple Grammy, MTV, AMA, & NAACP award winning super groups En Vogue & the million selling Raphael Saadiq co brainchild, Lucy Pearl! Dre Allen (the husband of Dawn Robinson) gave a passionate performance of songs from the upcoming album titled L.Y.F.E. (Movemakers/Tommyboy/ADA a division of Warner Music Group) for the packed house & was treated to waves of screams from the ladies & emotion filled moments of satisfaction from the audience as a whole. In a more tender moment, while stripping down to the bare bones of acoustic guitar, Allen sang a ballad that all men could relate to & recite in times of relationships most difficult moments called "Pathetic". While appearing urban in style, the band stunned listeners of all creeds with it's honest lyrics & more alternative rock leaning approach to soul. Delight filled the faces of highly critical reporters from Billboard Magazine to VH1. Others in attendance who were visibly impressed were Raphael Saadiq, Tre Hardson from the rap group The Pharcyde, Jadakiss producer Darock, Music Plus TV, Music On Demand reporters, New Line Cinema executives & many more. Judging by this performance, it looks as though the time has come for The Dre Allen Project to take its place beside todays biggest & most successful. The Dre Allen Project
Genre: Pop/Rock (Pop/Rock/Soul)
Hometown: Los Angeles, California
Los Angeles, CA April 16, 2004 -- "It’s been a long time coming and I know a change gone come," Otis Redding made this lyric famous and singer-songwriter Andre Allen is living it. He has been through a turbulent music career and an even more devastating childhood. With impermeable persistence and passion, Andre Allen has created a soulful and inspirational debut album, The Dre Allen Project featuring wife, Dawn Robinson (formerly of En Vogue and Lucy Pearl). The Dre Allen Project puts soul into rock with strong vocals and unique musical arrangement. The album will be released the first week of July off of the independent label Movemakers Entertainment and distributed nationally by Tommy Boy Records. The album is also available online now. Do not get it misconstrued this is not an R&B album it is a Rock album, exemplified especially in the first single "Fly". A soft plucking at a guitar leads you into the song and Dre’s voice breaks the song open in the first note. "The song is about escapism, dreaming about the simplest of things like a sunny day or the putting your feet in the sand," explains Dre. This single is the perfect illustration of the musical talents of Andre Allen and wife, Dawn Robinson. The album has moments of angst similar to Evanessence but conveyed through the soul of Dawn Robinson’s voice. The Dre Allen Project mixes different musical elements like telephonic sound, heavy drums, and monster guitar. The album also features collaborations with Shelia E on the song "Mama Didn’t Say" and Kayla on the song "It Couldn’t Be That Bad." The album is the creative development of a musician repressed by the industry and career downfalls. Who is Andre Allen or Dre? He is a man with a mission, after 10 failed record deals, a stint in incarceration, and brief career with R&B group, IV Xample, Dre is finally ready to spread his rock wings. " He should be opening for Lenny Kravitz, Dave Matthews, and John Mayer, because his music is likened to that," explains Robinson. In December 2003, Music Connection Magazine named The Dre Allen Project as "One of Southern California’s Top Unsigned Artist." Today, being unsigned is of no worries for the couple. Movemakers Entertainment is also the brainchild of Dre and Dawn (co – CEOs) and Maurice De Pina is the President. The trio plans take their indie label to the next level. Allen says, "I think what we are doing is a testimony to the strength of the human spirit." In that testimony, Allen and Robinson have managed to make some progressive and creative music for the masses.
