I'm with you on Ginuwine's butcher-job. With most of these I prefer the original but that doesn't mean the covers are bad. The best example is The Fugees'. The original is a perfect classic so they did what you have to do with such a song: they totally made it their own by adding their own flavor. In that regards it is one of the best covers ever. My worst cover goes to Prince for "La, la, La means I Love U". There might be worse but this one comes to mind. |

I bought that 'Party Of The Times' Prince tribute for 99¢ thinking there had to be at least one decent cover on it. The Dead Or Alive remake of "Pop Life" didn't make me wretch. All the others were the worst Prince covers I had ever heard. You are right,that album really sucks!There's another Prince tribute called 'If I was Prince',and it's just as bad as 'party of the times'! Come to think of it,I didn't like 'Purple Pain' either! | |

On the other hand, "The Beautiful Ones" by Mariah, made me LOVE that song.. Yeah, yeah, I know..... I feel the complete opposite. I really like his cover of ICMYLM. he made it his own by injecting a whole lotta soul. Mariah, on the other hand, took every bit of soul that was in TBO, and suqeezed it right out. Horrible cover!!!
