there have to be other Falco fans out there... one of the most interesting pop/new wave artists of the last 20 years. A great catelogue of work... very tragic that he died so young.

yeah, he died at age 40 in a car accident several years ago.

As for a place to start for a novice - the best is probaly "FALCO 3". It was his 3rd album and contains "Rock Me Amadeus" and some other great tracks. There is also a greatest hits album that came out in the US a few years ago, but it ONLY covered his first 3 albums... much of his best material came after that.

There was a "Greatest Hits - Remixed" CD released in the US and it's widely available, but I would not recommend it... the remixes are pretty lame, and don't really capture the true Falco feel... more like mid-90's remixed versions of Falco songs.

Many of his CDs are not available in the US, but they can usually be found fairly cheaply on eBay.

one of my favorites was Vienna Calling and his remake of Do it Again.

well, as an Austrian I have to step into this thread of course and show a bit of patriotism after all Falco scored our biggest international musical success since... well.. probably Mozart?

I wouldn't call myself a fan really, I just bought his first album (the one including "Der Kommissar") and passed out on Amadeus and all that came after, but during his whole career he had always something exciting going on here and there to keep up my interest... The funny thing about is, that my wife, who's not Austrian but Canadian, was a giant fan long before she met me or even moved to Austria... so it was her to introduce me to much more Falco music along the way.

I always liked Falco's music.
I got all of his release and I must say that he did a lot of great songs.
If I can give a suggestion for a place to start check the "Greatest Hits Vol.1" and "Greatest Hits Vol.2" European CD releases (separately, as fas as I know there was no box set)... IMO they give a great view on his work collecting tracks from all of his album pre-1998 and some great 12" version.
