I suppose you're right, however I think that Green Day has really created a particular sound that can be heard in pretty much every pop punk band out there right now.

thats what i was gonna say green day had that 90s pop punk sound.

I second that. Fefe and Alanis sound nothing alike. I fail to see that comparison.

I'm tryna think....one thing that comes to mind only cuz I'm listening to Yeah Yeah Yeah's right now is that Karen O reminds me alot of a milder blend of Chrissy Hynde and Wendy O Williams (I did say a 'mild' rip off)

But I love em...they're still doing something cool and Karen's wildly entertaining!

that reminds me of a classic org-quote from yester-year: "Avril is just trying to be the Canadian Alanis"

Most of the current hipster bands are. And most of them aren't even trying to hide their influences.

Jack White sounds eerily like Black Francis at times.

Interpol sounds like a manicured, refined version of Joy Division.

Franz Ferdinand sounds like any number of bands, depending on the song.

The Strokes sound like The Stooges.

That chick from the Yeah Yeah Yeah's sounds like Chrissie Hynde.

The Killers took their name from a New Order video and are supposedly trying to rip them off. They're failing miserably.

!!! sound somewhat like Konk but are actually much better.

his falsetto is very prince like! so is pharell williams'.

No way. Pharell sounds more like Curtis Mayfield if anyone.

hmmm I would say that Pharell Williams musical approach channels P but his vocals give me Curtis Mayfield flashbacks.

No way. I see Hot Hot Heat (which is a great indie band, noneheless) as an original Neo-New Wave band. I see very little Robert Smith or Ric Ocasek influences in them.

The Rapture is just funky. They remind me of like Gang of Four or something.
