Ya'll need to stop sweating Smokey. Let's see you whiny bastards write 4,000 songs. So WHAT if he's rocking dreads, twists or whatever. What's with the ageism? Smokey can rock any doo he wants to. He's an entertainer!
It was nice of them to honor him in that way. He's earned it. Not everything has to be all about your own personal entertainment. Sometimes shows have a purpose aside from trying to entertain your every whims. Sometimes you people are just audience members with seats at home. Don't like it? Change the channel.

Agreed 100% Nobody on this board is going to write 4,000 songs. Smokey can look anyway he wants to. I wonder if some old no talent white dude would get this kind of shit from people.

thi shas nothing to do with Smokey's Legacy as a songwriter...the whole show was just poor. I applaud BET for even doing the Walk of Fame, but they really need to rethink the way they select the performers paying tribute. In comparison, the tribute to Ray Charles was much better in production and performances. As for my comments about Smokey and his dreds...at some point you just kind of embrace your age. He looked as ridiculous as Lena Horne would with a new long hairweave (whereas you would expect to see Diana Ross with one since she has had a weave virtually her entire career).Hell Rick James looked kinda messed up in the dreds ,too--they're just not for everybody.(not to mention how sad he looked at the last BET awards show with that unbuttoned shirt) If any white artist past the age of 50 came out with a mohawk or multi-colored hair they would look just as ridiculous. sometimes you just have to look and dress your age. If Prince came out in some ass-less pants at age 46, I would say the same thing--he's too damn old for that shit. You think Patti Labelle will start rcking her outlandish hair from the 80's? Cyndi Lauper gonna start dyeing her hair multi-colors again? Nope--because they have matured into middle-aged women.
you look better on your facebook page than you do in person hmph!

No he would not. Elton John who, is talent walks around with a wig on his head and no one makes a comment about it.

you ARE kidding, right? it was the punchline to every Elton John joke in a Leno/Letterman monologue for 10 years.

I am talking about the music media and these message boards. Not to many people look at Leno ( take a look at his ratings)

If you knew anything about dreds. You would know it has nothing to do with fashion but that is a whole different topic to get in to.

White artist get a pass. Black artist do not. That is just my opinion. We can all just agree to disagree.

nod I couldn't agree with you more about BET's effort with the Walk of Fame. It's great that they want to pay tribute to the greats. However, their efforts in choosing people to celebs to particpates weren't any different from CBS's RAy Tribute b/c the younger singers sucked badly during thier performances due to their lack of true talent to begin with.

Also, I love your comments about Smokeys doo, They were on point. His doo was remeniscent of Rick James and Lena come to think of it

well Leno's been consistently the #1-rated late night talk show of the last decade, so i'm sure plenty of people have seen him.

but back to the point, I'm an Elton John fan.... and I make fun of his hair. and his tantrums. and his shitty 80's/90's albums. and him appearing in diet coke commercials with those god-awful plugs. and him filling in for Celine Dion in Vegas. and all the fucking cartoons he sings in. etc.

get a grip. it's a lot less of an issue than you're making it out to be. (as usual).
