Why is Hip Hop so Homophobic? Its sickening!!!

I Love Hip Hop...when I think of Hip Hop, I think of artist(s) like: Talib Kweli, Common, The Roots, Mos Def and The Fugees!

But lately Hip Hop has been cheated by artist(s) like : Cash Money Boys, P-diddy, G-Unit, Nelly and other acts who aren't really hip hop...perhaps just RAP!

So I'm listening to Lil Wayne's "Go DJ"...which is a song I used to hate, now I find myself liking it...
Well once I actually listened to the lyrics, he states "Homo Ni**as getting aids in the a** , and I'm getting paid in advance", why does artist feel a need to diss gay men all the f**king time?

You got...50 Cent who says he can't get with f*ggots...when in fact I don't know a gay man who'd want his ugly monkey looking a**.

It just makes me sick to my stomach that men waste time on topics that don't concern themselves...if your not gay and you don't think gay, why are you even talking about it...just rap about something you do know.

What are your thoughts prince.org?

Well...i think Hip Hop is more for the "hip" (like 106 & park / TRL crews. Rap is the general language of the genere, good LYRICS with a hot beat.
Rap these days is usually covered by people who really do have something to say..(u can add Kanye, jay-Z, and Nas on that list too although they do hip hop also).

I feel sometimes they are not generally talking about gay people in general. I udes 2 use the word faggot for someone whom i think is below me, not that eye had 2 say they were gay, I'm gay my damn self.

I feel though if they do use the tem to specifically point out gay people (like the one you posted about Lil' Wayne's dumbass), THEN it's a problem. But someone like Eminem...I kinda thought they were going too hard on him because they do not understand the "ghetto terminology" sometime. He didnt specifically say that he was going to harm gay people.....oik maybe he did but he said he was going to kill everyone and his wife and even you! omg lol

It's sad to do it anyhow..just in the same sense it makes me sick when my brothers & sisters refer to themselves as a "nigga". Got damn that shit makes me mad.

unfortunately there is s alot of prejudice in the black communtiy towards gay people, particularly in hip hop culture, though i don't know why. my only guess is that rap music is supposedly "hard" and "gangsta" and being gay isn't. i agree that if homosexuality doesn't affect them, then why speak on it?

my question to you, is what is the difference between rap and hip hop? you made a comment saying that some artists are either rap or hip hop.

I know how you feel. It turns my stomach when I hear people saying it. What about fat joe saying it a million times in the song "lean back"? personally i think that shouldn't be played on the radio.

You have it mixed up. "Rap" mainly appeals to the 106&Park and TRL crowds. Hip Hop covers the Kanye's, the Nas', the Common's of the world. "Hip Hop is cultural music, Rap is business music" - KRS-One.

good to hear ppl 's thoughts on this subject, and thank you all, but it doesn't justify...why these ppl always associating aids with gay ppl, I've never tested positive for hiv or any std and I'm 26 years old...have been gay since i could remember... and now I hate the song again!

Because it ruins the whole purpose why i liked the song!
I'm a gay male whose also black/hispanic and I know the stigma in both communities, but come on ppl, why do ppl care so much about who i put my d**k in and who I want to spend the rest of my life with, if it doesn't effect others!?

Anyhow...Lil wayne is ugly and he needs to not represent my country (dominican republic) in his videos...because thats just flat out rude and rappin about homo dudes getting aids in the a**, when he could very well get aids himself, just like anyone else, male or female and its not all gays who get diseases.

I hate that kind of hip hop!

The problem is that more than half of them have probably been with a man before. Black gay clubs, especially, are full of "trade". Lately, the media has been exposing them as men on the "down low". It's about time someone outed them.

Many of these men were introduced to the lifestyle through prison. Others may have been watching too damn many porno movies with lesbians letting a man join in and think that it is like that in real life. They come to gay clubs thinking they are going to pick up two women and end up going home with a man instead. Others that go to the clubs, may have been introduced to the lifestyle by being previously seduced by a man and enjoyed it and continue to persue it.

Whatever the reason, these are some extremely dangerous men. What they are, in reality, are bisexual men. In their minds, they refuse to accept that they are anything other than straight. They think they are straight because they are only receiving oral sex from men and not giving. They also think they are straight because they are the ones doing the penetrating and not being penetated. They are very much attracted to women but...hey, an orgasm is an orgasm, whether it comes from a man or woman, it all feels the same. They are very stupid and think with their dicks instead of their brains. They can be manipulated into give oral sex if you get them to the point of no return and then stop and refuse to finish until they return the favor.

In the back of their minds, they know they are not straight because they hide the fact that they have been with men. If they are so straight, when they are bragging with their friends about how many women they have been with, why don't they tell them about the men? They really refuse to accept that they are bisexual. Many of them prefer a drag queen rather than a gay man because those are the closest things to a woman.

The fact that they think they are straight, makes them think that they are above gay men. They go to the clubs and try to hustle money from them in exchange for sex or even flat out rip them off. The majority of gay bashings I have seen have not been from straight men, they have been from trade.

Think about it people, if AIDS started with gay men, then how did it spread so rampant to women? These men exist.

I have seen SO many trade that constantly talk about gay men and how much they hate them and then they turn around and receive oral sex from them. These men look and act just these rappers out there.

I urge any gay man out there, if they are going to be with trade, never be with one you have just met. Be sure you have known him for a while and know where he lives and who is girlfriend is so you can blackmail him if he starts any shit.

That doesn't surprise me. The black community needs to become more accepting of our gay brothers and sisters. I think it will take a popular closeted gay person(particularly male) to come out publicly to open dialogue about homosexuality. Silence about this is feeding more bias and hatred towards gays. Although, I believe some progress has been made.

Oh, g*d. Please, let's not turn this into another "hip hop sucks" thread. Hip Hop is a powerful and wonderful form of art just like any other genre. It depends on what artist you're listening to. 50 Cent, Lil Wayne, Nelly and whoever else is on radio or BET do not define hip hop for me or take away from my love of it. I find a lot of people either lack resources or just aren't inventive enough to find different forms of music. My friends have really gotten me into "homo-hop" or "gay hip hop" and it's really cool and different from what's going on in the mainstream. You don't have to be gay to enjoy it, just have an open mind.

But someone like Eminem...I kinda thought they were going too hard on him because they do not understand the "ghetto terminology" sometime. I kinda disagree...
It's not about understanding 'Ghetto Terminology'. The fact that supposed 'heterosexuals' using the term 'faggot' is widely excepted
through mainstream media outlets says a lot about society and the 'level'
of tolerance towards gay people.

If 'white people' would use the term 'n***a' on that same basis all hell would break loose. When black people use the term, the word is instantly deconstructed
and it just becomes a parody...

I personally don't have a problem with Eminem, i mean ultimately u gotta have a sense of humour about things..

This is a little off-topic. I'm a fan of some GREAT dancers who just happen to be gay, and I was wondering if you all have ever heard of a dancer being turned down for hip-hop videos due to his sexual preference? I mean, these guys ARE NOT overtly feminine or "stereotypically" gay when they dance, so it's not a question of style or ability, but everyone knows that they are gay 'coz they just don't hide it. Since the hip-hop community is so homophobic, I would think it would be VERY difficult for an openly gay dancer to be cast in a hip-hop music video.

Have you ever been with a women? Maybe I don't understand it. Cause anything sexual is a choice. My friend Duane was gay for along time now he's not anymore since he turned to Christianity. That's the part I fell to understand?

If I cheat on my spouse I could say it's my natural urges but I have a choice not to do that, cause it's not the right thing. Don't take this the wrong way,I've had this discussion with my friend. Good it be mental? I don't know be lots of things and consider it to be natural to make it acceptable.

Rhondab

this is less about black folks than it is about a male dominated industry.

I remember some heavy mental songs back in the day had some homophobic lyrics, another male dominated genre of music.

Didn't G-n-R have a song talking about "faggots"?

This issue is about heterosexual homophobic men not the black community which I would agree has some homophobic issues that are grounded in the church and NOT because of the lack of "strong black men" or whatever.

And what is the lack of strong black men.....I know plenty of strong black men...shrug

You don't understand. Sexuality is who you are and cannot be changed, IMO. Yes, you do have a choice whether or not to act upon it. Please do not compare gay couples who are in committed relationships with heteosexuals who cheat.

Well first of all you are in NO position to call anyone a "ugly monkey" because based on your avatar, YOU ARE UGLY!!!

2nd calling another black person a monkey(especially on a website such as this) is ignorant and immature. As if we don't have enough problems with white people calling us names like that, now we have another black person saying? SHAME ON YOU!!

And lastly, i agree with rappers such as 50 cent; I CAN'T GET WITH FAGS EITHER!!!

Just be careful of over-generalizing. Not all -in fact most bisexual people aren't like that.

I agree that you cannot over-generalize. I can only speak from my experiences and my area. I live in the South. I have been going to gay clubs since 1990 and in my city there has always been one predominately black club and one predominately white club.

I started going to the black club exclusively until around 1995. The music was great. It was strictly house music and fast dance rap music and the DJ mixed it to perfection. The only slow song that was played was the last song before closing. This club was wild as hell. It was like what I had seen on television about Studio 54. There was only one problem, trade was everywhere. They lurked around every corner.

Around 1995, rap music started taking over and the black club started playing mostly midtempo gangsta rap. That's when I started going to the white club. The white club still played house music but it was techno house. I can deal with techno more than I can deal with rap. More and more of the older black people started leaving the black club and going to the white club.

When I started going to the white club, I was amazed that they did not have a trade problem at all. White bisexual men would openly admit that they were bisexual. I've also noticed that bisexual women, whether black or white, have no problem admitting that they are bisexual also. I don't know why but it seems that the only bisexuals that have a problem admitting their sexuality are black males. I've seen a few that will admit it but the majority won't.

I've also seen white trade also. I hardly ever see them in clubs. The ones I have seen are usually truckers, roadies, stage hands, or carnival workers. Men whose work requires them to travel all the time.

I don't agree that most bisexual people are open with their sexuality because of the trade. They are bisexual also and they will not admit it. These men could be any girlfriend's man or any wife's husband. We don't know truly how many bisexuals there are because so many of them are in the closet.
