Broadway: The American Musical. Who watched? PBS did it again with another stellar documentary, this time focusing on a musical history of Broadway. I for one am now intrigued by "Porgy and Bess" and Stephen Sondheim, who is quite possibly a genius.
Musicals might not be everyone's cup of tea but one thing I have noticed is that if one becomes a hit they live for a long time, unlike popular music. People go to their favorites over and over. I saw on TV where one woman saw "Jeckyl and Hyde" about 174 times! Plus the actors sing AND dance, yet Ashlee Simpson can't seem to do either. What did you think of this program?

Oh, and I thought it was great. [Edited 10/25/04 13:03pm] "I saw a woman with major Hammer pants on the subway a few weeks ago and totally thought of you." - sextonseven

I taped it and have only gotten half way through it. I never knew the history of Broadway. It was intensely fascinating. There's a DVD set with 6 hours of footage that never aired. X-mas may have 2 come early 4 me... Listen to me on The House of Pop Culture podcast on itunes http://itunes.apple.com/u...d438631917
