I fucking hate it when people call Duran Duran an "80's band". They're been around since '79 or so, and they're still going strong today. Sure, all of their biggest laurels have been in the 80's and that was their creative & commercial peak and whatever. But they've done stuff after that too. And they were successful at it. Duran's career should not be confined to just what they did in the 80's. It's very unfair and narrow-minded to say that.

You want an 80's band? I'll give you The Smiths.

They were born and then they lived and then they died.....in the 1980's. From 1982-1987, they existed and did their thing. Sure, they still might be popular and influential, but they're still an 80's band. Or, technically, that's how long their career has lasted.

Duran, on the other hand, is still around.

SO is Prince , Prince was 70's signd his first contract in 72

I don't think Time is that important after all its just a way for the Paper pushers to catalog things.

Suuuure!

It is a fun album, but hardly a classic. Same thing as Musicology.

Yeah - competant. I liked it, but I can take it or leave it too.

this is the kind of crap that makes me angry....

the people that are dissing this album probably haven't heard it, or are too far up Prince's behind to listen to anything else. I own both Musicology and Astronaut (BTW, I didn't have to join an expensive fan club to get access to new DD music or recent DD pics either!) and love them both. If I had to choose, DD would be the only music I'd listen to. I've loved Prince's music since around the "Under The Cherry Moon" era... (yes, I own that VHS movie).

DD has just gotten this album on the charts, and I"m sure it will do well, but I think for the most part different types of people listen to Duran Duran and Prince's music. I"d much rather be involved with a band that gives me access to demo versions of songs and the latest news than to subscribe to an expensive elitest website.

Yo i agree , the elitest website u are speaking of is it Prince or Durans'?
I am asuming the former but since i haven't joined any i can't say for sure.

I know Duran has the Club 30$ a yr or something.
and Prince has his 100$ or something?

And from what i have heard posted from the Jack that was ripping Duran earlier on this very post. Prince failed to deliver the goods after SDL bum paid the money.

U would think the guy would have gotten a clue to ska-du

Yea i agree I would listen to Ole Simon all the time and if u go to sites like DuranItaly.com or some of the sites DURAN.com has listed under LINKS u can find a lot of stuff. John Taylor has stated that he has a vast collection of bootlegs. and that he thinks its things like that, that keep ppl interested in a band. And so i don't see them trying to sue anyone over ppl enjoying the music.

I think we will be getting the chance to hear a lot more of these guys they wrote 35songs for the Astronaut album but sad only 12 got polished enough to be submitted but they are already talking to producers for the next album the way i look at it we will be getting an album a yr from Duran Duran ... which is what they did back in the day.
i have heard about 90% of those 35 songs and i haven't figured out why they didn't do a 2disc set to say hey! we have been gone 20+ yrs HERE U GO eat ur heart out... can't get enough.

I find it hilarious that folks always pigeonhole Duran as being an "80's" act, since they formed in the late seventies and have consitently put out albums. Oh, and one of their BIGGEST selling albums came out in the 90s (the "Wedding Album").
Ignorance, may be bliss, but it can make you look damned stupid.
