Dolly Parton Responds To Lip-Synch Charges

Dolly Responds To Lip-Synch Charges

Those who read the site regularly know that there have been a slew of conflicting fan reports and (somewhat hostile) Letters To The Webmaster over apparent lip-synching at the "Hello I'm Dolly" Tour concerts. Dolly confirmed on Monday that some of the songs are pre-recorded but, contrary to some fan assertions, some of the show is performed live. "Yes, there are portions of the songs in the show that are pre-recorded," she told Dollymania. "I tell you that at the beginning of the show when I say, 'If you notice some enhancement or doctoring in the show, it's not to fool or trick anyone. It's an effort to entertain by being able to have a bigger production and, hopefully, a better sound.'" Dolly declined to specify which numbers are live and which ones lip-synched, but she added: "Just know that it's all Dolly, by golly," and asked fans to enjoy the show, as they are the reason she is back on the road. "I'm doing it for you," she said. Thanks, Dolly!

More fans wrote in on Friday morning with their notes from the opening night show on the “Hello I’m Dolly” Tour from Greenville, S.C., with most saying they were disappointed that it appeared Dolly lip-synched almost all of the songs in the concert. One even went so far as to say he believed she lip-synched even her between-song banter with the audience

One fan wrote:
I saw the Greenville, SC opening show of her tour last night. I"m outraged! Dolly woman was lip-synching!!! On top of the gaudy Vegas show style of the performance. This tour was much better suited for the Harrah's Casino circuit. I've seen many concerts and this by miles was the worst show I have ever seen.

Dolly has been an idol of mine since I was 6 years old. She was my first concert I ever saw when I was 8 years old. And I think my heart literally broke last night. Her atrocious show has soured 20 years of memories. I can't believe she scalped me of $100

I guess I'm not really surprised at all since everything else has been "enhanced" on her as it is.

I love it. It's got this creepy folky 'Wicker Man' vibe to it.

She can actually sing tho, so it's somewhat excuseable.

I'm seeing her here in the Twin Cities on Friday, and I'm so looking forward to it! I hope the lip synching is minimal, but she's been a favorite of mine since I was an itty bitty baby. I cannot wait! And her version of Stairway to Heaven is brilliant. Can't wait to hear that choir.

i wonder why she's lip synching...we all know she can sing. if she's doing a bunch of dancing than i completely understand but if she's just standing and sitting while singing, well, that's lame.

this really surprises me.

dude, I've ben waiting since I was 3 to see Dolly. At this point I don't think anything will keep me from enjoying the show. Still, I hope she sings a good chunk of it.

and, i second Sassy's observation. Dolly is a REAL musician. Plays, sings and writes and does it ALL very well. Maybe with her age, she feels needs a little more help to do a tour of this scale....

clapping

Not only that, but she's been around since the late 60's thumpin' out hits with Porter Wagner and kicks ass on virtually every instrument she's picked up... and that's not easy with those long ass nails she sports! Not to mention, girl can really sing!!!

Plus - at least she's 'up there in age' before she resorted to assisted vocals... I'd still go see her. music
