Jazz Freaks: Any Hazel Scott Fans? Been introduced to her music lately and I wonder if you guys heard of her or her music. Dynamic pianist,,,I think she's the 1st to infuse the boogie-woogie with the classical. Cool vocalist too(highly influenced by Billie Holiday even tho she has it sweet & less raw). I'm loving her work so far even tho she got a handful of albums in print(3 albums). [Edited 10/22/04 13:31pm]

Unfortunately, i'd have to say no at the moment.
She's someone I must check into at some point. tA Tribal Disorder http://www.soundclick.com...rmusic.htm "Ya see, we're not interested in what you know...but what you are willing to learn. C'mon y'all."

I've always read about her in jazz books. But I neva had the chance to listen to her untill PBS showed a breif segment about the "52nd Street in Harlem & Cafe Socioty" days.
They showed a movie cameo clip of her pre4ming "The Man I Love" from the movie early 40's movie "Rhapsody In Blue" and that really took my breath away. She's a decent vocalist but the woman is something fresh & new on the keys,,,she can really work a piano. FYI,,,she's also the 1st BLACK woman to have her own TV show well, untill they accused her of being a Communist sympathizer.
