Ha, Ha - I wrote an article about this very topic a year ago. BTW, anyone looking for a free lance writer? Well, here it is.
7/7/03 RAINY DAYZ With all the rain dominating the east coast in the months of May and June, I felt it appropriate to share with you the top ten rain songs of all time. These are hit songs that span three decades and include a few classics and personal favorites. I’m sure at least one of these songs meant something to you at one time or another. So take a look, reminisce, and don’t forget your umbrella, LOL. 1) Purple Rain –Prince (1984) Purple Rain is the title of the hit movie soundtrack that made Prince a household name and a musical icon. The #1 POP and R&B single also received a Grammy and Oscar for best album of the year. You couldn’t tell Prince shit in those days, LOL. Although his career has taken a nosedive, he still continues to sell out arenas and has a loyal fan base. This classic will rain on forever. 2) Can You Stand The Rain – New Edition (1989) New Edition’s biggest hit record and fan favorite came at a time when the group was in transition. The members were getting older and no longer had that teen pop sound. On top of that, the popular group member, Bobby Brown had left and blew up as a solo artist. To conquer these issues, New Edition enlisted Johnny Gill, and hooked up with Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis for the comeback double platinum album, NE Heartbreak. Currently, New Edition is in the studio with P.Ditty working on a reunion album. Stay tuned. 3) Walking In The Rain – Orange Juice Jones (1984) “I saw you, (and him) walking in the rain…you were holding hands and I.. never be the same.” As a teenager in the mid 80’s everyone was singing this chorus to the uptempo, hip hop/r&b tune which spawned a few answer records. The one hit wonder, Orange Juice Jones was the first R&B artist signed to Def Jam. 4) It Never Rains (in Southern California) – Tony Toni Tone (1990) This crossover top 10 POP and #1 R&B ballad by Tony Toni Tone is a certified Gold classic slow jam and an all time favorite by Tony Toni Tone fans. 5) Here Comes The Rain Again – The Eurthymics (1983) Ok, surprised you with this one? Remember the song Sweet Dreams and the woman with the crew cut who looked and dressed like a man? Well Annie Lenox and the Eurythmics, were among many of MTV’s era of groups who had pop success in the 80’s. Here Comes The Rain Again hit #1 in 1983 and is still cranking till this very day. 6) Making Love In the Rain – Herb Albert (Featuring Janet Jackson) (1987) This seductive, quiet storm ballad, features Janet Jackson’s sexy voice on the chorus over an instrumental horn arrangement by Herb Albert. This is one of my personal favorites. 7) In The Rain – Keith Sweat (1987) This wonderful quiet storm ballad is one of many Keith Sweat gems found on his debut album, “Make It Last Forever.” This album spawned 4 top ten hits and set the stage for a very successful career, which only recently (sales) has started to deteriorate. Keith Sweat still draws a crowd wherever he goes and his benchmark slow jams can never be imitated or duplicated. His songs will last forever and forever. 8) The Rain – Missy Elliot (1997)) This catchy/bouncy hip hop track off of Missy’s debut album, Supa Dupa Fly, was an instant smash and solidified her as a solo artist as her album debut in the billboard charts at #3. The innovative and hi tech, video for “The Rain,” broke new ground for music videos as other artist soon followed suit. 9) Rainy Dayz – Mary J Blige (Featuring Ja Rule) (2002) At a time when Ja Rule was the most wanted MC, (recording/writing hits for Jennifer Lopez and Ashanti) Mary seized the opportunity by enlisting Ja to lend support to a new track to beef up her current album, “No More Drama.” The single was a smash and helped improve the sales of her current CD and maintain her hip hop queen of soul status. 10) Through The Rain – Mariah Carey (2002) Mariah’s strong comeback single produced by Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis reminded us of her ability to sing effortlessly without missing a beat. Although not even coming close to her past chart success, it was a solid comeback and received rave reviews and was a favorite on MTV’s TRL. Honorable Mentions/Close Calls · Summer Rain – Carl Thomas · I Wish It Would Rain – Marvin Gaye · 17 Days (let the rain come down) – Prince · Rainy night in Georgia – Ray Charles · Blame It on The Rain – Milli Vanili (Ok, I’m kiddin, LOL) Another one that's not included in my article is - When The Rain Begins to Fall - Jermaine Jackson and Pia Zodora - I bet nobody remembers that one?

The first Cracker album has a track on there called "Another Song About the Rain." It fits this thread perfectly. Wasn't there an NPG track called "Hallucination Rain?"

" Let it rain, let it rain, let God's water feed me The water of life, mentally rinsing me, physically drenching me Most are frowning upon your arrival but I need you for survival And when you fall on my community I run outside to properly greet you Let it rain, take my pain, I'm glad to meet you Fill my eyes with a colorful rainbow Every drop hits me, fills me with an unmeasurable amount of security knowing my God acknowledges me as if each drop of rain is aimed toward me my Lord: Thanks for life [Thanks for my rain] my Lord: Thanks for life [Thanks for my rain] " "Raining Revolution" - Arrested Development I love that tune A school daze favourite "..My work is personal, I'm a working person, I put in work, I work with purpose.."
