Salt-N-Pepa working on sitcom, other ventures

Salt-N-Pepa Working On Sitcom, Other Ventures
By Nolan Strong and Jigsaw

Female rap pioneers Salt-N-Pepa may not have a hit record on the charts at the moment, but the two veterans are busy with other ventures, including a new sitcom that they are developing together.
“We are developing the sitcom together,” Pepa told AllHipHop.com. “It’s going to be based on our lives.”

Both Salt and Pepa will star in the untitled television show, which they are taking their time to develop.

In 1994, they did a pilot for a show titled “On Our Own,” which didn’t pan out.
“We are taking our time. The people involved have a lot of energy and are ready to go,” Salt said. Everything happens in time and timing is everything.”
After becoming a born-again Christian almost two years ago, Salt teamed with former Kid-N-Play rapper Christopher “Play” Martin, who also left secular music for gospel and created “Rise,” a Hip-Hop gospel stage musical.

Salt will continue exploring her spiritual side and plans on dropping an introspective album chronicling her life.

“I’m going to bring out [the album] under my own label with my husband,” Salt said. “I don’t even want to say that it’s a gospel album. “It’s more of my testimony, it's what I been through in life until now what god had has taught me.”

Well, its good to see that they have worked out the bad blood between them. Hopefully, all will go will for them w/this venture.

I don't think Salt & Pepa had bad blood between them. Spinderella had beef with Salt & Pepa after some financial quarrels and hasn't spoken to them since. If you notice in the article, there's no mention of Spinderella.

Salt N'Pepa never really had bad blood amongst them it was Spinderella who got dogged in the long run.
I am not African. Africa is in me, but I cannot return.

I am not european. Europe lives in me, but I have no home there.

Well, I do recall watching thier Behind The Music special on VH1. At the time that show was made, Salt and Pepa weren't on speaking terms and vowed that they would never work together again. I guess the tension betweeen them and Spinderella is unmendable b/c of royalty disputes.

OTHER VENTURES

Along with Toni Braxton, who's busy working on a sitcom:

I saw that same special. What I took from it, S-N-P were disillusioned with the sour response their last album ("Brand New") received and subsequently went on hiatus. Salt, after tiring over money woes with Herbie -- and the price of fame -- bowed out of the spotlight. Pepa, divorced Treach, but she didn't want to stop rapping. Spinderella didn't want anything to do with S-N-P after bitter royalty disputes and them not giving her equal footing in the group.

We need a group like SNP to come back and show the "newbies" how it's done. I'm tired of this watered-down Ciara/Petey Pablo/Lil' John shit. And now that TLC are gone, I'm hard-pressed to find a female R&B/rap group that can cut it.

I feel you. There's definitely a void in the female R&B/rap group arena. S-N-P were the lone torchbearers then... and STILL. They are the only successful female group to come out of rap and exceed gold.

As far as R&B groups, I'm sorry, I'm not feeling Destiny's Child like that. I like a single here and there, but give me TLC or any of the '90s girl groups like Brownstone, SWV, Xscape any day. These kids are getting on my nerves blowing up "Lose My Chunks...er, "breath" lol

Never liked DC3, either. I like Kelly Rowland solo, though, but I'm not sure if it's because she seems to be a nice person. Better voice than Beyonce, though.

Ditto. I am feeling you. I miss the groups you mention.

The show sounds good but other than hardcore fans, will anyone enjoy it? Then again, take a look at "Curb Your Enthusiasm" to be a hit based on the celebrity of Larry David. Kind of strange that the only one to get over the Seinfled curse was someone that wasn't an actor on the show. While the show is something I would at least try to check out, I wish Spinderella was involved.

However, you know that if SnP do make another album it will sound terribly cheap and/or they will work with Lil' John and get crunk. If they work together again, I just hope they make an alubm that doesn't sound like a pitiful comeback album that you can smell from a mile away.

I love Salt N Pepa and I'm glad to see they're working together again, but I have a funny feeling about this sitcom.Since they've been out of the spotlight for so long,it's hard to imagine one of the major networks being interested.Or maybe they already have a deal?

I'd be more excited to get a new album from them.

I remember in the mid-90s,the girls signed a new record deal and they were paid $11 million upfront.Spinderella felt that they should split the money equallly (three ways) but Salt and Pepa didn't think that she deserved the same amount. They paid her a lesser amount and she stuck around for the final album 'Brand New',but I think her feelings were hurt.

That has been heavily discussed here (and there...and everywhere). I'm with her. I think she should have had a more active role as well. Their arguement was that she wasn't there when they were struggling (the first album and before) but she was a part of their hit formula. I don't see this getting resloved. I kept hearing she was going to release a solo album or something. Probably never happened.

yeah I remember talks of a Spinderella solo album way back as far as 1990 when they released "Black's magic" I doubt it will happen....I believe she is on the radio now up in LA.

I think the tension resides most with the girls and Herbie. Herbie was just a jive creep. I heard him talking during that "Behind The Music" special and he just came off as a total creep.

As for Spin, let's face it she was always the weakest link. Her rap skills were sub-par, and she was hardly on the records besides. I bet when they looked at that they decided hey, maybe she doesn't deserve a full 3rd. Then again Spin is their friend and I'm on the outside so...

But the thing that REALLY disappointed me about S-n-P was the fact that they didn't write ANY of their early raps. I don't think they got writing credit until "Shoop" and even then Herbie was caliming they didn't write it on the "BTM" episode. This was a revelation. I always thought those feminist raps were from the girls. I'm easily manipulated when it comes to this. TLC were the same way. But I feel when you have such a strong image presented that it's obviously yours and that you as the artist have all these things to say and way of acting and so on. When it came out that TLC and S-n-P didn't write they just became run of the mill pop stars. Plus rappers have NO cred if they don't write their own stuff.

Yeah,I too was surprised to learn that they didn't write many of their own songs.

Didn't Herbie not have anything to do with "Black's Magic" becuase he was doing something else. I remember a special that aired when "Very Neccssary" came out and they were bitching about Herbie. Imagine my surprise to see that he was a producer on that album! Very strange.

To my knowledge Herbie wasn't involved with "Brand New", for which he gloated on BTM when the record flopped. Herbie was arrogant enough (or coked up enough) to sue SnP for royalties I believe last year.
