i'm sure a lot of the time the record companies don't want the sexuality of an artist to be confirmed, as not to alienate potential fans and have backlash from certain sectors. many people in the artists inner circle know their deal, but just keep mum about it. for instance, the love affair between boy george and jon moss wasn't publicly exposed until years after culture club broke up, although the other two in the band knew full well what was going on. a few members of klymaxx are supposed to be gay too..at least Fenderella and Bernadetted Cooper anyway. Tevin Campbell was still young when he was with Quincy Jones, but i'm sure the record execs kinda had their suspicions (in that one world video, he walks and raises his hands like a runway drag queen)

I saw Bernadette Cooper out at a gay club in Oakland in the 80's. She wasn't hiding. She obviously wanted to be noticed. She was there with a woman that had on a drawn-in pencil moustache.

I don't know if anyone posted this

Jermaine Stewart
All of the Villlage People. I don't remember them ever saying they were a gay group when they first hit the scene.

And What about Pete Townsend of the Who.
Was I the only one that Didn't know he was gay?

The lead singer of the Village People was straight. I had my suspicions of Pete Townshend when he sang the song Rough Boys. The song says stuff about wanting to bite and kiss a rough boy.

Jermaine Stewart?

Yes!!!! He hung out in the San Francisco bay area. His good friend was Sylvester (disco drag queen of "You Make Me Feel Mighty Real" fame). He actually sang background vocals on Miss Me Blind, Culture Club. Great friend of Jodi Watley. He did a song about her. NOT THAT ANY OF THAT MAKES HIM GAY. Jermaine passed away, don't know when though.

Awww, I didn't know the song "Jody" was about her. I have his Frantic Romantic album, with "We Don't Have to Take Our Clothes Off" and "Jody"

Seriously though, I've got my doubts about him. But who cares? Straight, gay, or otherwise, he's neat. biggrin

I have always thought not.. but some of these lyrics people are bringing up like the one about I will be your girl or your man.... or something like that... I dunno know about that. hrmph

"....she had the cutest ass he'd ever seen. He did too, they were meant to be."
"....I will be a girl, I will be a boy, I will be your toy."

I've always thought of Prince as bisexual.

I have this album too. It was not a bad pop album. The two songs you mentioned and Frantic Romantic were pretty good songs. Oh well.

Thinking back to the 80's...Boy George was a big ole drag queen sleeping with the drummer, and yet somehow the general public was shocked when he said he was gay later on...just thinking of people who you kinda thought was gay and then actually did turn out to be gay/bi

Rupaul
Liberace
KD Lang
George Michael
Tevin Campbell
Elton John
Right Said Fred
Freddie Mercury
David Bowie

I don't give a s@#t about who's gay and who's not, still I want to correct the message. Freddie Mercury was Bi-Sexual who probibaly prefered men over women. It's not sure he did. He had sexual relations with both, men and women. David Bowie is also Bi-Sexual, as is Mick Jagger. They both prefer women for sure. It wouldn't surprise me when Prince also happened to be Bi-Sexual or maybe even gay. About Terence Trent D'Arby was also said he was gay, he's married to a beautiful woman now. He might be Bi-Sexual but isn't gay for sure. Some people say about Lenny Kravitz that he's gay, I don't believe he is. He might also be Bi-Sexual though, I don't know and really don't care.

Lot's of great artists are/were Bi-Sexual, not all great artists are.

I figure he's probably bisexual(I may be wrong), but most people around here want to insist he can't possibly be anything but straight.

In all honesty, Prince fans overall may have better taste in music, but a lot behave like 12 year old *N SYNC fans.

nope, cuz the wigstock movie came out at least two or three years before that flick, and ru is gay as can be in that flick. and i remember listening to ru's radio show back in '96 and he was hardly coy about his sexuality during his daily morning show. maybe waaaay back in the early-to-mid '80s, when he was doing his new-romantic/glam thing, he was all cryptosexual, but i think he came galumphing out of the closet at LEAST when he came out with "supermodel", if not a while before that.

well, just tellin' ya what i read. the interviews were definitely after his supermodel song...and he was definitely claiming to be a flaming hetero.

You'd have to be a plank to beleive it if he did. Drag is generally a gay thing whereas transvestism is more often straight guys wanting to make like a secretary.

Andy Bell and Jimmy Somerville were open about their sexuality from the very start. The Pet Shop Boys, on the other hand, were not.
