My dad used to play Robert Plant's Big log when I was 10 years old or something...

Still love that song, and does remind me of my father every time I hear it!

U know there was this song i was obsessed with as a kid, but noone ever recognises it!!! It would have been released about 1983 or early 1984...some rock group wif big hair and bare chests lol n da chorus was "we're not gonna take it..OH no..we're not gonna take it..we're not gonna take it..anymorrrre" lol I have no idea who dat was, but i used go around da house pretendin to play guitar and kinda doin this: headbang to it giggle (was 3 at da timez) ...i'll betcha no one will know who da hell they were.

Yes, but that's more the opposite for me than the norm. As an adult I hear more music that I heard as a kid, and paid little attention to as a kid, and now I LOVE some of those songs.

As an example: "Backstabbers" by the Ojays. That piano intro is sort of chilling, the lyrics couldn't have been more descriptive and true. Thematically and lyrically it has everything in common with The Undisputed Truth's "Smiling Faces." That's just one example. I'm rediscovering a lot about the Ojays that I hadn't when I was a kid. And as a kid I was deep into Stevie, so it wouldn't have been unchartered territory for me for me back then.
This post not for the wimp contingent. All whiny wusses avert your eyes.

Julian Lennon's 'Salt Water' and Bart Simpson's 'Do The Bartman'. Back when I was wee, no-one could tell me John was better than Julian. No-one.

I'd have to go with Paula Abdul's "Opposites Attract". At the time I thought it was cool seeing her and that animated companion of hers (MC Cool Cat or something....).

But now the song (as well as the video) is just sooooo corny now.

As a kid back in the late '80s, I remember going around my house singing these tracks...

Pebbles - Mercedes Boy (I used to hum this all the time in elementary school)

Janet - Escapade / Alright (I remember dancing in front of the TV to these tracks on numerous occasions)

REM - Stand (this song reminds me of my older sister, she had moved out of the house and every time she would come back home she would watch MTV and this was one of her favorite videos back then)

Paula Abdul - Cold Hearted / Straight Up (I remember I used to love her songs between 1989-1991)

Yes, but do you think they're terrible (I highly doubt you dislike the Janet ones wink )?

Man, c'mon...that song's the main movement in an elevator symphony. But Do The Bartman...that was funky. Bold, edgy and in-yer-face. Just like Prince at his peak.

Ohhhh, I just re-read Mr. Squiggle's initial question.

The songs above are those I fondly remember, not cringe at.

I guess nowadays you wouldn't catch me blasting "Somewhere Out There" from the American Tail SDTK.

Because it had 2 videos, both of which were awful? lol I'm pretty sure I used to love that one as well.

I was a big fan of Alan Parsons Project's Eye in the Sky for some stupid reason when I was a kid. Heard it recently and scratched my head at the thought of loving it as a 10-year-old.
