I served him water in a restaurant in Sydney!
He said, "thanks, man". Made my day that did. Still love Public Enemy.

1. Neilsen is a skank, and a phase for Flav.
2. Keep in mind that producers for these shows encourage certain things. Same goes for a show like Jerry Springer. 3. William Drayton aka Flavor Flav is NOT untalented. From what little I've heard of him instrumentally in recent years his musical skills are above rudimentary level. He actually does play the drums, piano, and bass. At least. 4. For any newbies to Flav's hip hop role, don't be chicken to check out Public Enemy's albums, especially the first four: Yo! Bum Rush The Show It Takes A Nation Of Millions To Hold Us Back Fear Of A Black Planet Apocolypse 91...The Enemy Strikes Black Flav is the perfect counterpoint to Chuck D.'s more serious content, because he provides comic relief in the midst of all the serious stuff. He knows what he's doing. His own songs on those albums are comical, topical, and clever by design. Don't sleep. Marriage my arse. This post not for the wimp contingent. All whiny wusses avert your eyes.

I can't base an opinion on mere speculation. My detest for the show is well anchored. Season 2 was so great, I had big plans for Season 3, but they were spoiled by the likes of Flav, Bridgette, and frankly the whole cast. I really find none of them worth watching. Charo is the least annoying. It really doesn't matter how many instruments Flava plays, he'll always strike me as an embarrising Sambo ... who's just too loud, too crass, too gold-plated, and too heathenish to be redeemed. I seem to be alone here. But that's my opinion and I'm stickin' to it.

Mother of God.
I would rather see Tammy Fay and Ron Jeremy.

Nothing like outing yourself on a subject you seem to know little about. Supenova. Let me get this right. So, Synthia doesn't know anything about Sambo. I was aware of that fact. I find it interesting that she would speak on w/out understanding it.

I was aware of that fact. I find it interesting that she would speak on w/out understanding it. what? x2. I find both these statements irrational. One, I can comment on Flava from my 80's memories and from watching 3 episodes of the show. He's not that deep and has always seemed antithetical to the values of Public Enemy. Secondly, how would either of you know my knowledge of the Sambo motif? Far beyond the children's book character, the Sambo slur has long been appropriated to deride blacks as cartoonish jungle bunnies and simpletons. Given that, I'd say the term fits Flava aptly. He's an embarassing human cartoon that makes me cringe and feeds stereotypes about black Americans. That's my personal opinion and beef with him, regardless of what anyone else says. Frankly, I'm disturbed that people enjoy him so much -- but you don't see me trying to chide people for having an opposite opinion. As I said earlier, to each his own. Deal with an opposite opinion without trying to attack the speaker. And the reference to instruments wasn't addressed to one person as several people mentioned it.
