What was the last single you bought?

As a nod to Lennon's thread, and also for the memory impaired. lol

Yknow, I really don't buy that many singles nowadays, and you probably don't either.

What was the last single you bought? Here's mine:

"So Gone" b/w "All Eyez On Me (PYT)"

The mixes were great nod

And yes, they are hard to find.

I bought one for MJ's "One more chance" and the 2 remixes were so crap

wasn't impressed with the mixes. the best one, i thought, was the one on the R&R ep. the longer version on the maxi seems a bit lackluster. i really dislike the trend of eliminating most or all lyrics in remixes (especially madonna remixes).

i haven't really liked a Madonna maxi since..... erm....probably Bedtime Story. since then, there's usually been ONE mix per song (max) that i've liked.

Try and track down the promo with the radio mix and instrumental. Really kick ass.

Well, you have to be into heavy dance music or club music to be able to enjoy a lot of Madonna's recent remixes.

1992 (#1 R&B, #10 Pop US). Then a rerelease with new mixes in 1995 (#2 UK).

(Almost) complete CD discography here: http://www.cravingjanet.c...BTILAF.htm

This disc almost completes my collection.

P.S. The mixes for this track are incredible.

i haven't listened to the Love Profusion remixes yet, though it's in the house. i did love the Headcleanr mix though drool

it's not that i'm not into heavy dance or club music. it's just that the remixes are pretty much unrecognizable these days, when they don't use any of the original vocals or music from the song. just a trend i dislike when it comes to remixes. if i wanted to hear original musical creations by people like Victor Calderone or Jacques Le Cont or Peter Rauhofer, i'd buy stuffy by them.

See, that's why I like remixes. I love new spins on songs. The point of a remix is to stray away from the song, not to copy it. They can be really beautiful when they're done right. Of course some remixers (Rauhofer) tend to do the same thing over and over again, but some are quite inventive (CJ Mackintosh in the early 90's, Jonathan Peters today).

yes, but what's the point in making it a "remix", rather than a new song of your own, when it has absolutely nothing to do with the song that's purportedly being "remixed"?

The "point"? Well, a lot are commissioned to make the song danceable. lol

Other than that, the point is that they're just damn fun (to me), and sometimes better than the original track. A lot of single versions are better than the album versions - thanks to remixes (unrecognizable in some cases)!

true. It's Not Right But It's Okay really need to be saved from that tired-ass Rodney Jerkins sound, but to be saved by the tired-ass Thunderpuss sound? lol although, i suppose in 1999 Thunderpuss wasn't quite tired yet. tiring, but not tired.

Some really good ones:

Madonna - Express Yourself (7'' Remix)
Madonna - Keep It Together (Single Version)
Janet Jackson - Alright (7'' Remix)
Mariah Carey - Dreamlover (Def Club Edit, still Morales' best remix ever)

Plus the gajillion Motown tracks that were remixed for single release. Ever heard the LP version of Martha Reeves & The Vandellas' "Jimmy Mack"? The single mix made that song.

ah, it's VERY VERY subtly remixed. but i do like it more than the album version. gives it more punch.

Madonna - Keep It Together (Single Version)

yes, makes it single-worthy.

Janet Jackson - Alright (7'' Remix)

ditto. that version actually feels more like the actual song, whereas the album version seems so "remixy"

Mariah Carey - Dreamlover (Def Club Edit, still Morales' best remix ever)

eh. so-so.

ever since the glory days of prince 12" singles, i haven't really been into buying singles...but !!! has been putting out really good CD singles with remixes and whatnot, that remind me of the old prince singles from back in the day...extended versions of the A-sides with really long b-sides. yummy.
