'BIGGER & BLACKER’ OSCARS: Chris Rock announced as host of Academy Awards.

I'm proud to see another black person hosting that show but I'm not that enthusiastic about Chris being the host, more power to him tho:

*Days after Gil Cates was announced as producer of the Oscars telecast earlier this week, the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences on Thursday said that Chris Rock will host the show, which may very well become the event’s highest-rated, if not most-entertaining ceremony in Oscar history.

"I am a huge fan of Chris Rock," said Cates. "He always makes me laugh and he always has something interesting to say. Chris represents the best of the new generation of comics. Having him host the Oscars is terrific."

The 77th Academy Awards telecast is set for Feb. 27.

I love Chris Rock. I think he is hilarious -- in the right context of course.

But you gotta wonder whether his delivery style of SHOUTING jokes with a weird grin-frown on his face will mesh with the black-tie Oscars.

I honestly don't know. But I do think he's smart enough to pull it off as well as Whoopi did.

Did not like her one bit..

The hosts generally suck. This year the host will be more abrasive than usual.

I think Steve Martin did a great job (remember the joke about Michael Moore and the Teamsters Union?)

Chris Rock, eh?

Not huge on him, but he's sometimes funny. I'm sure he'll be a really good host, especially in a relatively controlled environment like the Oscars. Quite a "different" host than the Oscar's are used to.

biggrin I can just imagine Chris Rock causing a lot of the audience to squirm with his jokes and bluntness. All in all, it will be nice to see a black man onstage during the telecast that isn't Denzel Washington! The Academy Awards lost its ethnic diversity when it nixed those "what the f#ck?!?!" dance montages that were choreographed by Debbie Allen years ago. At least then you could see a rainbow coalition of dancers interpreting "Moonstruck" or "The Last Emperor". Now, the Oscars demographics is just two cars shy of being a NASCAR event!

Chris Rock needs the Academy Awards and the Academy Awards really need Chris Rock. This is where Chris does his best rock. Actors are easier to laugh at than rock stars! It should be great.

Yeah, I heard about this. It's gonna be a wild Oscars show. This might go down in history if he pulls it off. I know it's a very stiff affair. It'll be good to see him bring in some laughs and clown these "artistes of cinema."

One thing I hope I don't see is watching him jumping on the "nigga this,,,,nigga that" bandwagon in front of those white folks for the sake of their laughs.

We have enough "Tom Clowns" already, I don't wanna see another one ESP in National TV.

But then again Chris is an intelligent brotha despite his outragous nature.

Chris is so talented. He's one of my favourite comedians. He always tells the truth whether you like it or not. It doesn't matter what or who he's talking about, he always tells it like it is. I think the Oscars need someone like him to spice up that old, boring show. Good for him!!

Big mistake. Chris is so totally not right for this venue. I don't think he's right for any awards venue if his last VMA appearance is any indication. But I be damned if I don't watch this thing. Double that if Uma Thurman gets her well deserved nomination for "Kill Bill".

i think that's great. but i fear that it'll turn into a Letterman thing. i thought Letterman was pretty good, and was the only breath of fresh air the Oscars have had in some time. much better than the bland Billy & Whoopi shows. but he was pretty much lambasted for his hosting duties. Steve Martin was good too, but it was in a similar vein as the other 2 who do it every year.

good luck, Mr. Rock. you'll need it.
