I am really digging the new Cure single (plus R.E.M. and a couple Morrissey name-drops) 01. alt.end
02. Why Can't I Be Me? 03. Your God is Fear Not only is The Cure's self-titled record the best of 2004 (so far) of any old-school alt-rock band, they're actually releasing two non-album tracks with each single. In the US, no less! They're slow and depressing, natch. Track 2 has some serious wah guitar, which is always fun. So I have an album and two singles, two new songs each. Awesome! But this release got me thinking. These b-sides are supposed to be released in the UK backing "Taking Off": http://www.thefinalword.c...iew/220/2/ 2004 was a huge year for The Cure and Morrissey. Huge. There was totally room for R.E.M. to come back with a great album, but they blew it. Around the Sun is already my least favorite of any Warner Bros. R.E.M. album. Just one or two songs could have really gotten them some attention. Oh well. You hope when your favorite bands fade into obscurity, they at least give you weird music to make you feel better - COUGHCOUGHrainbowchildrenCOUGHCOUGH - but the new R.E.M. is boring. If Smith and Morrissey can do it, why not Stipe? When the sunlight strikes raindrops in the air, they act as a prism and form a rainbow. The rainbow is a division of white light into many beautiful colors. Regardless of the day, I'm glad you were born. | |
