Who's That Girl Part II: And The Award For Worst Actress Goes To...? Madonna Fails at Acting.

"The director should get an academy award for getting a semblance of a performance from Madonna in that movie"

Camille Paglia, on Madonna performance in "Desperately Seeking Susan".

And to think Rosanna Arquette was jealous. To be fair it was Madonna's best, and possibly only, good performance in a movie. Here's a rundown.

"A Certain Sacrifice": Bad movie. Even worse performance.

"Desperately Seeking Susan": One of those movies that's the perfect 80's time capsule. Madonna wasn't in it that much which helps. Playing herself well.

"Shanghai Surprise": No surprise to anyone. It's awful. Madonna was worse.

"Who's That Girl": Madonna is the sole reason this movie is as bad as it is. Madonna makes a bad choice in dialect and kills the picture. Points off to the director who didn't have the guts to chastise the star over this vanity project.

"Dick Tracy": Despite the rumors Madonna was bad in this picture.

"A League Of Their Own": Passes the Madonna test (She was barely in it). That helps in any movie she's in. From what I saw it passes Madonna test #2 (Playing herself adequately). Supporting roles are her friend.

"Body Of Evidence": Who thought it would be so hard to be Sharon Stone? Madonna fails to be erotic or compitent in this misstep.

"Four Rooms": She didn't matter in this picture. Neither did the picture.

"Evita": Contrary to popular belief Madonna was as wooden as a corkboard in this attempt at reintroducing the musical. But she did pull out a surprise. A death scene that caught me off gaurd. How did she do that?

"The Next Best Thing": ...to nothing is this uninspired attempt at a romantic comedy. This movie is wrong in so many ways, the main thing being Madonna's "british" accent. And girls, don't fall into bed with your gay best friend. It never works.

"What It feels Like For A Girl": Her best performance on film. I know it's a video but this is the direction she should be going in. I wish someone would try to reinvent the silent film JUST for Madonna.

"Swept Away": Madonna left her talent at bay in this horrible remake of some movie that wasn't even that impressive to begin with. Did Madonna harange her promising director husband into making this dreck? What happened to the promise of "What It Feels Like For a Girl"? Someone woke up without their brain the morning they decided to greenlight this script.

So there you have it, a crime against celluloid. What's striking is that Madonna gives great video, it just seems like she doesn't have an ounce of talent with any significant role. What do you think? Who can save her from embarrassing herself any further?

"And the award for Worst Actress of the Century goes to: Madonna".

I completely agree with all of the above EXCEPT - Four Rooms does matter. It was a damn funny movie IMO.

The one scene with Marisa Tomei was hilarious I admit. The rest of the movie I can't even remember that well. Some nonsense with Bruce Willis and Antonio Banderas. Madonna was typically manneured in her scene with the coven of witches.

I did threaten a Part II to my deconstruction thread if it was a success. Of course it wasn't but alas, the Madonna has done nothing musically thread went gangbusters so I just thought hey, I might as well go ahead with it. At least I know something about the subject.

I'm going to go so far as to say that it's THE reason she got any recognition for that role.

Evita is a fooking musical, she's not wooden at all in it. It's just fitting
of that crap score..

She's fooking brilliant in Snake Eyes/Dangerous Game..she plays a dual role.

You forgot Shadow and Fog directed by woody allen. Not a stellar perfomance either...but then again neither was the movie.

I was trying to stick to movies I was unfortunate enough to know something about. I also left out "Bloodhounds of Broadway". And how could I leave off "Truth Or Dare", a movie I'd say is one of the better movies of the 90's. Will always be entertaining. I argue it's Madonna at the height of her career.

Agreed! Who's That Girl is, IMO, Madonna's most consistently entertaining movie. She looked great in the film as well (which certainly didn't hurt), and I like the songs she contributed to the soundtrack.

I totally agree.'Who's That Girl' is a damn good movie. It can be cheesy at times (like many other late-80s comedies) but it's really funny and entertaining too. This is the Madonna movie that I watch the most.

Some of Madonna's movies are so bad that they're actually good.A perfect example is 1993's "Body Of Evidence".This film is so ridiculous and outrageous but it has a certain charm to it...lol...it's worth seeing just for the sex scenes, which are insane.

I've never seen this movie. How is Madonna's performance?

Surprisingly, there are several Madonna films that I've never seen...

Four Rooms
Shadows And Fog
Dangerous Game
A Certain Sacrifice

There's also another rare film from 1988(?) which also stars Jennifer Grey and Matt Dillon. Can't remember the name, but I think it went straight to video.Does anyone know what I'm talking about?

Madonna was ok in Four Rooms. She didn't have a huge part and she was ok doing it, so I can't say anything negative about it. The movie got horrible reviews, but I laughed my butt off. To each his own, I guess.
