Jonatha Brooke just tore the house down in Nashville! An ex-girlfriend of mine introduced me to many treasures. One of the lesser (though still very much appreciated) ones was an introduction to Jonatha Brooke's music.
JB's a bad woman, to those of you who haven't heard. After she and Jennifer Kimball disbanded their Massachusetts-based folk/jazz/pop duo The Story, JB went on to write some seriously solid songs. Though major radio and industry support have eluded her, she's kept right on, doing the indie thing and blessing her fan base with really great songs. Well, tonight, she delivered a wonderful show. She opened for herself, playing a mostly solo set (though she was joined by her backup singer/keyboardist for Story harmonizing). I can't get enough of JB's chords, so I was practically staring at her fretting hand throughout the entire show. An amazing talent. I urge you all to run out and buy her stuff. No downloading! Like she said about that tonight, "I spend tons of money in the record stores. I make up for all the people downloading it. C'mon, you gotta make a living, right?" In a just world, there'd be more artists such as she making tons of money, and fewer Britney Spears types. But, hey, that's another thread altogether. I'll add the review to this later. I'm wiped...
