Nothing she can't sing, can't dance, and can't act!!

Every once in awhile she will due something stupid like that fake british accent, change religons, or put out really bad movies!!

Wow, another Madonna bash thread. Hey mods, can you give them a sticky so they don't keep cluttering up the board? I swear I saw a thread with this same title a few days ago.

Anyway, obviously no room for debate here. Enjoy!

No , you probably meant a thread that was about Elton John saying she was lypsynching

Besides , there are far more people on this org that think she's shite , than you mentioned

I mentioned the people who never want to debate, just want to talk shit and won't listen otherwise. So I think you should have your own sticky.

what an absurd statement

listen to Ray of Light or Like a Prayer

I have over 500 albums and they're amongst my favourites

give her some credit, you can't survive in the music biz for over 20 years without some talent

if she's done nothing then what the hell have u done?

Anxiety

I think Hendrix was a competent singer. Not great, not bad. He had a distinctive voice that nicely complimented his playing.

And Madonna, if nothing else, is a dancer/performer who uses the media of popular music to channel her craft. She's not a technically proficient singer, nor is she known as a particularly talented instrumentalist, though she IS a songwriter...if you say singing and songwriting doesn't make you valid in the music world, then from everything I know, Michael Stipe = Madonna.

Is Madonna in the same league as Stevie Ray Vaughn or George Duke or Prince or Frank Zappa? No. But is she supposed to be???

Everybody can be heard today in just about every style of dance music around.

Before Everybody and Shannon's Let the Music Play, dance music was disco.

Disco was big on orchrastation and just throwing everything in but the kitchen sink to make the music.

It was huge with the urban black and gay communites since the late 60's early 70's. Late 70's mainstream America caught on. 80 the backlash started. No mainstream station would play a disco song or disco artist.

Punk took over.

The grooves getting tired in disco, dance acts started to find different ways of getting into the groove.

People started using less instruments and the advent of the synth allowed that even more.

Early summer of 82- A girl from Michagan named Madonna Lousie Ciccone and a friend Stephen Bray, also from Michagan record a demo. The demo had 4 songs... Everybody, Burning Up, Ain't No Big Deal, and Stay.

Madonna and her friend Debbie Mazar were big in the club scene hanging out with Basquit, Warhol, and Keith Haring. One night Madonna walks into the Danceteria where DJ Mark Kamins is spinning. She walks to the booth and asked him to play her demo. Still mostly playing disco style songs and not really sure whats on the tape he agrees to take it home and listen to and if he likes it he'll play it the next day. Madonna and Debbie return the next night and Kamins plays Everybody. Everybody takes to the floor. Kamins takes her to meet Seymour Stein. Unsure about where to put her, he signs her to the dance section of Sire.

Both Everybody and Let the Music Play hit the airwaves in October of 82. The dance genre is stunned and neverheard such mimimalistic sounding songs with a groove. Both also have a great pop hook. The roots of techno are laid, and a new genre of music is born... not disco and not really just pop.... Dance Pop.

other artist to become dance pop are
Janet Jackson
Kylie Minogue
Dannii Minogue
Britney Spears
Christina Aguilera
Destniy's Child
TIffany
Nsync
Justin Timberlake
Samatha Fox
Pretty Posion
Paula Abdul
Spice Girls
Pink
the list can go on.

No influence on music? SURE
You CANNOT use the name of God, or religion, to justify acts of violence, to hurt, to hate, to discriminate- Madonna

No,every once in a while, she will do something like....

"Evita" ---a well-received movie in which she won a Golden Globe Award
"Ray Of Light" ---a career-defining album that won her four Grammy Awards and alot of critical acclaim
"Reinvention World Tour 2004"---a hugely successful tour that grossed over $124 million, becoming the year's most successful tour

Funny how you don't wanna talk about those things.

I also do not consider Madonna as a "musical" genius or something.

To me, she a fabulous dancer, fabulous entertainer and she KNOWS how to sell herself, she knows how to cause controversy to keep people talking about her all the time. WHen sex is taboo, she´s all about sex, the war in Iraq comes, she imidiately responces to that. That´s all. That´s her "genius".
"When Michael Jackson is just singing and dancing, you just think this is an astonishing talent. And he has had this astounding talent all his life, but we want him to be floored as well. We really don´t like the idea that he could have it all."

No,her "genuis" is her ability to reinvent herself, try new sounds and styles, and keep her music fresh and exciting, something that your own idol (Michael Jackson) is not known for.

Who's being so 1984 now then Davideye ????

All you've just said is Madonna's genius is basically down to other people - stylists and producers - ure not helping your cause !!!

Because you're hypocritical when it comes to Madonna. In spring 2003,when 'American Life' was released, you were praising it and saying that it was a great album. But on a recent Madonna thread, you said that she needs to "put out some good music".

Hang on a minute. lol I never said that American Life was a "great album". I said it was a good album and a better set than Music. I still think that. But sure, I'd love to hear her do a straight forward set with no fiddly production and distracting modern gimmickry. Her best stuff is her simplest stuff. For me, at least. Why should I be lumped into an anti-Madonna crowd just for that?

It's pretty fucking rich coming from the likes of yourself and Josh. Look at your own comments that you've made about MJ. They're all over the map.
