Ray Of Light or American Life? Which One? Both albums are great. But I say that Ray Of Light is my favorite. American Life is a good one because it's her most personal album. Which one is your favorite? Check me out and add me on:

Haven't heard enough of the albums to say, but out of the individual songs I'd pick "Ray of Light". "A Watcher scoffs at gravity!"

Ray of Light.
I really liked American Life when it came out. But, that album hasn't held up well for me at all. I still really enjoy a few tracks, but skip through the rest of the CD. Ray of Light, on the other hand still sounds as fresh and exciting as it did the 1st time I heard it.

they're both great, but at this point, i'm pretty much over ROL. it's a bit of a snooze to listen to start to finish, but that may be because i've worn the thing out in the last 6 years. although it does put a twinkle in my eye occasionally.
i think a better comparison would be Erotica and American Life. now that would be a tough one for me. they're my two favorites. dark, ballsy Madonna is my muse. "Awards are like hemorrhoids. Sooner or later, every asshole gets one."

i immediately loved ray of light...it was an instant favorite. american life, on the other hand, took a few listens before i really loved it. strangely enough, i'd have to say i like american life more than ray of light. its only by a hair but i just think american life is more well rounded. i feel like she was able to get "deep" on AL without getting boring but on ray of light i kind of feel like she hadn't quite learned how to be so honest and not be a little bit of a snooze. not that i think ray of light is boring...i just don't think its as exciting as american life.

Ray Of Light is Maddy's best album, IMHO. American Life is good, but inconsistent (all bad moments on this album are forgiven due to Nothing Fails, which is one of the best songs she's ever done) Do not hurry yourself in your spirit to become offended, for the taking of offense is what rests in the bosom of the stupid ones. To be honest even though i'm a huge Madonna fan I think she may have outstayed her welcome with American Life which I didn't buy after hearing the embarrassing title track, the awful bond theme, and seeing some poor live performances promoting it.
On the other hand Ray of Light is one of my all time favourite albums and even though I haven't listened to American Life I can't imagine it would come close. The reviews also seem to back up my hesitancy on American life.

They're different albums with somewhat similar sounds, american life being more acoustic and even rock. And the concept of both albums were different as well. Ray of Light was the spirituality outburst with the birth of her new child, relfection upon her career, her life and confessional.
American Life was turning against her materialism, selfishness and self centeredness. Being a big Maddy fan i can't vote

I enjoyed ROL more when it first dropped, and still has my favorite b-side "Has To Be".
American Life is the one. I'm a bit tired of Mirwais, but I related alot more to what Madonna was saying this time, so listened more. Still wishing I could hear the original full-length "Nobody Knows Me" (unless that was just a rumor).
