Yeah, that was nice. How about "What's Beef," that joint Black Star did on there later in the season? Or when De La did "Much More" that same year in their tour bus? Good night, sweet Prince | 7 June 1958 - 21 April 2016

I hope he drops some stuff from this project soon.
http://www.mosdefinitely....ckjack.htm Mos Def has formed a black rock band -Black Jack Johnson- who's ambition is to create a true rap-rock hybrid album, where both rap and rock can thrive on the same songs, unlike other hybrid bands like Limp Bizkit and Linkin Park, where the only hip hop element that the band has is the way they dress. The Black Jack Johnson project is something that Mos Def feels very passionately about, because it is more challenging than to simply put out another solo hip hop album like everyone expects him to do. Also, it has alot of historical significance, since rock was created by black American musicians in the mid 1900s, but stolen and credited to white rockers like Elvis Presley. For this reason, Mos Def wants to show that rock is black music, and that black artists can put out an album that isn't hip hop or R'n'B. The band is named after Jack Johnson (1878-1946), the first black man to win the heavyweight boxing championship of the world, in 1908, when he knocked out Tommy Burns in Australia. To form Black Jack Johnson, Mos Def brought together some of the greatest black rock musicians of our time, each one of them with outstanding credentials, talent and experience: Will Calhoun - Drums Will Calhoun, the acclaimed drummer from the Bronx, New York, graduated from the Berklee School of Music in Boston, where he received a Bachelors degree in Music Production and engineering. As a member of the very popular band "Living Color", Calhoun has a distinct and unique blend of improvisational and hard rock drumming. He has worked/recorded artists including B.B. King, Mick Jagger, Run-DMC and Public Enemy. Will has received many awards, including two Grammys, and in the late eighties, was labelled as the best drummer by several magazines including Rolling Stone. Doug Wimbish - Bass Doug Wimbish hails from Hartford, Connecticut, but got his career started as many do: in New York City. There he was the bassist in the house band of the legendary rap label Sugar Hill, backing Grandmaster Flash and the Furious Five on their Message album, among many others. In 1992, he joined "Living Color", a popular band that Will Calhoun played in. Soon after, the band disbanded and Wimbish went back to playing on albums by Madonna, Mick Jagger, the Rolling Stones and Seal among others. He was alos part of the funk/electronica trio 'Jungle Funk'. Now, he has over 20 years of experience and talent as a bassist and musician. Bernie Worrell - Keyboard At the age of 3, Bernie Worrell began playing the piano. At the age of 4, he had his first concert performance. At the age of 8, he made his first concert composition. Worrell can easily be certified a prodigy. His studies at the New England Conservatory of Music and Julliard School of Music gave Worrell a strong classical foundation. He was one of the founding members of the group "Parliament- Funkadelic", where he co-wrote, co-produced, recorded and performed most of the group's compositions on their fifty-plus albums. Bernie Worrell is also one of the most sampled musicians, since many artists have used his riffs for their beats, including Dr. Dre, Ice Cube, Salt 'n' Pepa, Snoop Dogg, En Vogue, Digital Underground, Heavy D, and De La Soul. In 1993, when David Letterman made his big move to CBS, Worrell helped launch the CBS Orchestra with Paul Shaffer. He also co-wrote the soundtrack of "Car 54, Where are You?" and Ice Cube's "Friday." On May 6 1997, Bernie Worrell was inducted into the Rock 'n' Roll Hall of Fame. Dr. Know [Gary Miller] - Guitar Dr. Know was the guitarist of Bad Brains, a band that is considered to be one of the most slept on in the past 20 years. Bads Brains is a Rastafarian band with strong political views, and is said to be the hardest of the hardcore punk bands. Bad Brains disbanded in the early 80s, but is still celebrated as one of the greatest bands ever. On many tracks, Dr. Know rages with his guitar, and is said to be the closest incarnation to Jimi Hendrix in the 80s and 90s. He also perfectly blends the pomp of heavy metal with the frenzy of punk. Black Jack Johnson has been touring for several months, and have also performed on HBO's Reverb. To the left is the hand-written 'set list' of their show on January 23 in New York's Bowery Ballroom, click it to enlarge. Their debut album is set to come out sometime in mid-2002.
