Laura Nyro Laura Nyro (1947-1997) Any fans of Laura's work?
She's written hits for everyone from the 5th dimension( Stone Soul Picnic, Wedding Bell Blues) to Barbara Streisand (Stony End )to Blood Sweat and Tears(Eli's Coming, And When I Die), and recorded with the likes of Patti Labelle, Gamble and Huff, Manhattan Transfer, and Todd Rundgren... I love the stuff she did for The 5th Diminsions. My mom had a few of her albums when I was little. SynthiaRose said "I'm in love with blackguitaristz. Especially when he talks about Hendrix."
nammie "What BGZ says I believe. I have the biggest crush on him." http://ccoshea19.googlepa...ssanctuary http://ccoshea19.googlepages.com

Yep... I'm a huge fan! I had an older relative in NY that apparently used to play her all the time when I was very young but I didn't discover her until I raided this relative's record collection 10-12 years later and found Eli & The 13th Confession. She's one of the most soulfull singers I've ever heard. Its a shame she doesn't get the recognition she deserves. I don't really listen to Alicia Keyes, but Laura defined that style of music, and in my opinion in a manner much more groovy and melodic than Keyes's.
I've never played her music to anyone that didn't subsequently like her. Change it one more time..

I'm majorly intrigued by her and have almost picked up her stuff before. But I know next to nothing about her, so I've held back.

Yeah, New York Tendaberry Is wild - strange mix of pop, blues ,Jazz rock, and folk, with sudden dynamic shifts and tempo changes, often right in the middle of the songs! " I've got six things on my mind --you're no longer one of them." - Paddy McAloon, Prefab Sprout
