Great.
sometimes he can lapse into run of the mill boring R&B, but overall i think he's great. instant vintage was a strong album and i think he has one of the most distinctive voices. did you know he has a new independent album coming out soon?

Good.

He's a great producer and songwriter. I enjoy a lot of his collaborations with contemporary artists like Kelis, D'Angelo, Q-Tip, Joi, etc.

I heard he was purportedly in talks with Kelis to co-headline a US tour. Guess that never came into fruition?

Definitely. Instant Vintage was good and underappreciated. He's the voice behind some of the best R&B ballads of the 1990's, including "It Never Rains In Southern California," "Lay Your Head on My Pillow" and "Anniversary," an all-time great ballad.

More on Saadiq:

I read that singer Truth Hurts (who left Dr. Dre's Aftermath Entertainment) has an album coming out soon on Raphael's new indie Pookie Records.

The new Raphael album 'As Ray Ray' is out in the UK already (27 Sep). I got mine sent through from play.com on Tuesday.

After 4 listens now, I would say that out of the 15 tracks at least 9 are excellent. Nothing as good as 'Skyy Can You Feel Me' or 'Excuse Me' though from 'Instant Vintage'. One of the weaker tracks is 'Rifle Love' with Lucy Pearl & TTT. Apparently it's the new single. There are definately some great songs & singles on the album, but IMO that's not one of them!!.

The best track for me is Track 15, which is the hidden track & doesn't have a name. Some top basslines on the album, which is always good !!!

All in all though, fans of Raphael Saadiq will not be disappointed. thumbs up!

Okaypimpin, have you heard the 'Yam Who' Re-edit of Skyy Can You Feel Me ? If you do, you will see this track in a different light. YOu gotta hear it, it's incredible.

It came out as a bootleg 12". Its about 10 minutes long. Yam Who are 2 two guys from UK who re-edit soul cuts & they enchance things every time. You can buy a ' best of Yam Who ' compilation via Piccadilly Records in Manchester on CD.
I'd be surprised if you cant find it but if you get no joy let me know - you need to hear it man !!
biggrin
