Will Prince appear on Santana's upcoming CD?

Santana has a new CD due in June, and the working title is 'All Is One'.This is the follow-up to his hugely successful 'Supernatural',and it will again feature an abundance of guest musicians, but that's about all the legendary guitarist will divulge."I can't tell you who or it won't be a surprise",he says."It has rhythm and melody and alot of colors and is more vibrant than the last album. It's just more fun".

And so the speculation game begins. The only thing we know for sure is that NONE of the artists who appeared on 'Supernatural' will be on the new CD.In recent months,we've heard rumors that the new Santana album will feature Sting,PRINCE,Aretha Franklin,Michael Jackson,Bob Dylan,Marc Anthony,Patti LaBelle,Whitney Houston.

Ia anyone else REALLY excited about this upcoming CD??smile

Definitely me DavidEye.

If I founf out Prince was on Sanatan's new CD, one word, "Umph!"

I just hope whatever song they do together really show off each others playing style while complementing each other atthe same time.

It has to be a good showing of each of their talents!

peace!

I hope that Prince appears, but for some reason,I doubt he will. The reasons being...

***Santana's CD is on Arista Records, and LA Reid is the CEO of that label.Considering Prince's past association with the label,it's unlikely he would be willing to appear on a "big-label" project like this.On the other hand,he DOES appear on the latest No Doubt CD,so you never know.

***Clive Davis is the executive producer of the new Santana CD,and we all know that he and Prince aren't exactly the best of buddies...lol..

***Remember the big fuss Prince made a year or so ago about Santana "borrowing" some music from Larry Graham without giving him credit?

Of course,I HOPE that Prince can put all these things aside, and record a killer track with one of his biggest idols. It would be an exciting collaboration,to be sure.

I agree! "Whatever Happens" is a killer MJ/Santana track.Michael really ATTACKS those lyrics, and Carlos plays a mean guitar solo.I also like that little "whistling" thing that Carlos does; makes the song sound haunting and mysterious.

What exactly does an "executive producer" do anyway? Fronts the cash or what?

Executive producer? I think Clive's job will be to suggest collaborations, help Carlos pick the songs and "shape" the album with him. It's just another term for "co-producer",I think.

Santana appeared at a Prince show the other night,so I'm wondering if these two are working on a song together for Santana's upcoming CD? It now looks very likely!

Btw,got some more news on that CD...the official title is 'Shamen"and some of the song titles are "Love To The People","Aye Aye Aye","Adouma" and "One Of These Days".The CD is still due in June, but it might get delayed until August.

It´s strange...let´s think about the Prince collaborations:

1) Amazing musicians, but not famous (NPG, Blackwell, Wendy and Lisa, Rhonda, Ricky Peterson, etc)

2) Amazing musicians, famous, but who played other instruments than piano, guitar and bass. (Maceo, Chaka, etc - the only exception that comes to my mind is Larry)

3) Non - musicians and/or protegees (Carmen Electra, Kim Basinger, etc)

We never saw Prince collaborating with a famous musician that challenges him on an instrument, like George Benson, Me shell, Marcus Miller, Omar Hakim, Herbie Hancock, etc
Let´s wait and see. I personally dont think Santana challenges him, but he is one of his idols, so maybe it will be hard for him to collaborate

I hate to say it...but I see nothing in Carlos Santana today. I guess that goes against 99% of public opinion nowadays.
