BRIAN WILSON: SMiLE!

How many other orgers are Brian Wilson fams? I know I am. I got into the Beach Boys and Brian Wilson about 4 years ago. I spent hours and hours reading about the mythic legend of SMiLE. And lo and behold, now it's here. Actually finally here. Amazing.

What do you guys think? It's scary how accurate the Wondermints were able to recreate the sound of the original recordings. His voice has aged, but it still works well. O man, what a song cycle. Makes me smile.

I enjoyed listening to the Beach Boys when I was younger and still do. I grew up on the east coast, so the Beach Boys music was sort of a rarity. I am now living in the midwest and going to see him in concert tonight! I can not wait. biggrin I have not heard the new album yet, I can almost guarantee that I will not be let down.

Does anybody here knows if this album is completely
newly recorded,or is it the old Beach Boys tapes from the 60's
with newly overdubs?

Number23

smile SMiLE smile is one of, if not the, most incredible work of art created in the 20th century. Truly, this planet would stop spinning on its axis if every human on Earth head wondrous, magical music insdie the same moment.
The flickering soul who traded his sanity to make real these alien sounds in his head is the true definition of 'genius'. Nothing like him, before, since or ever will be. A gift from the unknown put here to raise the collective conciousness of the human species.
Like Bob Dylan said "Brian's ear, man...that ear."

Columnated ruins domino. sad

how can anyone compare this "smile" to sgt pepper? Jesus.. its like comparing a classic to a kids album.. dont get me wrong.. its clearly some amazing material.. and Pet Sounds is a masterpiece.. but comparing the two are meaningless..

not that anyone was.. but i've heard that quite often..

I just saw Brian Wilson in concert in Chicago on Sat night. Not only did he perform SMILE, which was pretty interesting to say the least, but also various Beach Boy hits throughout his short career. He has a greatly talented back up band, who show stage presence and compliment the music throughout. I highly recommend this experience. I've been to many concerts in the past, but not as enjoyable as this one.

I agree, Sgt. Pepper and SMILE are in no comparison whatsoever. As for comparing Pet Sounds to Sgt. Pepper... that's another story. There is more of a link rather than a gap in the music creativity and innovation.
