Soundtrack classics of the day: "Fame" and "Out Here On My Own" by Irene Cara (1980)

headbang "Fame" headbang

wriiten by Michael Gore and Dean Pitchford

Baby look at me
and tell me what you see
You ain't seen the best of me yet
give me time,I'll make you forget the rest
I got a story, and you can set it free
I can catch the moon in my hand
don't you know who I am?

(chorus)
Remember my name (Fame)
I'm gonna live forever
I'm gonna learn how to fly (high)
I feel it coming together
people will see me and die (Fame)
I'm gonna make it to heaven
light up the sky like a flame (Fame)
I'm gonna live forever
baby remember my name
remember,remember,remember,remember
remember,remember,remember,remember

Baby hold me tight
and you can make it right
you can shoot me straight to the top
give me love and take all I've got
baby I'm in love
too much is not enough
I surround your heart to embrace
you know I got what it takes

(chorus)
Remember my name (Fame)
I'm gonna live forever
I'm gonna learn how to fly (high)
I feel it coming together
people will see me and die (Fame)
I'm gonna make it to heaven
light up the sky like a flame (Fame)
I'm gonna live forever
baby remember my name
remember,remember,remember,remember
remember,remember,remember,remember

(guitar solo)

Repeat chorus

music "Out Here On My Own" music

wriiten by Michael Gore and Lesley Gore)

Sometimes I wonder where I've been
who I am,do I fit in
Make believin' is hard alone
Out Here On My Own
We're always proving who we are
always reaching for that rising star
to guide me far and shine me home
Out Here On my Own

When I'm down and feelin' blue
I close my eyes so I can be with you
Baby be strong for me,baby belong to me
help me through, help me need you

Until the morning sun appears
making light of all my fears
I dry the tears I've never shown
Out Here On My Own

But when I'm down and feelin' blue
I close my eyes so I can be with you
Baby be strong for me,baby belong to me
help me through, help me need you

Sometimes i wonder where I've been
who I am,do I fit in
I may not win,but i can't be thrown
Out Here On My Own
Out Here On My Own

Some trivia for ya...

***The song "Fame" features background vocals by Luther Vandross, who was a year or so away from making his own debut solo album.

***The song "Out Here On My Own" ,which became the second single from the soundtrack, was co-written by 60s pop superstar Lesley Gore. She wrote the song with her brother Michael Gore.It became a Top 20 hit in the fall of 1980.

***The movie was originally titled 'Hot Lunch',but there was a porno film with this same name playing in adult theatres (!),so they quickly changed the movie's title to "Fame",based on one of the newly written songs from the soundtrack.Incidentally, there is a song in the movie and on the soundtrack called "Hot Lunch Jam".

yep, I really like the Fame soundtrack, there's many good songs on it nod

and you could see Irene Cara's titties in the movie... a rather disappointing experience lol
Vanglorious... this is protected by the red, the black, and the green. With a key... sissy!

It's too bad that Irene's career didn't really blossom that much. After "Fame" in 1980,she had a few other hits ("Flashdance...What A Feeling","Why Me","Breakdance")but by the mid-80s,she was already forgotten.I always thought she sounds like a young Donna Summer.
