Yes...from Jr. High through High School. In 7th grade, I was totally into the Madonna look. In 9th grade, I wore a key in a hoop earring like Janet Jackson did. In high school, there were a few occassions where I would wear black lace over one eye, and frequently wore camisoles under satin jackets. I even had one of those black hats that Prince wore in Under the Cherry Moon, and wore the hell out of it when I was 15.

I have several fads, wrong turns, many mistakes.
I started wearing colorful condoms over my left eye in high school... thanks Lisa "left eye" Lopez... may she rest in peace. I wore jumpsuits drinking, studying, and attended classes in college... thanks Pete Townshed... may he find peace doing whatever. I began drinking Jack fifths, straight, no nonsense... wearing it on whatever I was wearing at the time... thanks Jimmy Page... may he find peace gettin' old. I gotta go.

Too many to mention.
I've gotten over it mostly. Now I just attempt to look like a male version of Kylie Minogue.

When I was in Jr.high and high school, I was the spitting image of Dez with Jessie's hair. I had two trenchcoats with the studs on one shoulder, 12 rudeboy buttons down on the other side. One was navy blue and the other was gray. I even glued white guitar picks on the other shoulder on the gray one just like Dez did during the Dirty Mind period. There was a little mob of us who were P fans called "The Rudes". The girls would wear purple jeans, a Contoversy Tour shirt, with a purple bandana and lace gloves. Some of them would streak their hair purple. I still have the cap that looked just like the cap P wore in the Automatic video. I used to wear that to school. I had a rudeboy button attached to it. Girls were always taking my buttons off of my coat or just wearing my coat. It was cool to see different girls wearing my coats around school. Then u had the "Duranies" who dressed up like Duran Duran. Who did u dress like?
!!!Jesse!!!! During college I was in a Funk band, The Executive Suite! I had Jesse's style down to a science!! I hope the photo comes through!!! GGD [img] file:///C:/My%20Documents..._white.JPG

theAudience said: blackguitaristz said: Someone orged me, asking me if I actually looked like Dez. No, not at all. Sorry. I just dressed like Dez/Prince when I was in school. Which was an updated Hendrix look, circa 67, anyways. The trench coats that Prince and Dez wore was a take off of Hendrix's army coat. The summer before my senior year in high school, I had totally grown out my Jessie curl and was sporting the Jimi hairdo circa late 66, early 67, but much longer and wilder. This is evident at the Purple Rain premire outside of Mann's Chinese. I was wearing the navy trench w/studs, ruffled white shirt and white headband which was pure Hendrix, but was mistaken for the Prince/Dez look. Oh well, what can you do?
Jimi Hendrix Sly and the Family Stone Arthur Lee In terms of the black community, Jimi Hendrix, Sly & the Family Stone and to a lesser degree Arthur Lee (only because he was less visible in the 'hood) made it okay for some blacks to not be as restrictive in their modes of dress. When The Temptations broke out their "Hendrix starter kits" during their "psychedelic soul" period the cat was totally out of the bag. tA Tribal Disorder http://www.soundclick.com...rmusic.htm As you know, I ran a thread on Arthur Lee quite awhile ago, and ya'll know I think he's the shit. He predated Jimi and Sly as far as dressing went. He was the FIRST brother to dress in the style that we saw later from Hendrix and Sly. A very underrated brother. I give him his props every chance I get. SynthiaRose said "I'm in love with blackguitaristz. Especially when he talks about Hendrix."

As for me, it was more my hair that was influenced by rock stars. Its started off as a Billy Idol 'do (circa "Rebel Yell"), evolved into a Sting haistyle (Circa "Blue Turtles") and eventually wound up as Simon Le Bon (circa "Notorious").
As for clothing, I did integrate quite a bit of the "neo-hippie" look that Prince has during "The Cross" in the SOTT film, combined with the torn jeans of INXS' Michael Hutchence (which was refined by George Michael on "Faith", but with more of the "acid wash" thing). By my junior year, I was deep into the "new wave" look (which was pretty much the forerunner of Goth), with sprayed-up-on-one-side hair, black clothing and peace symbols/crosses for earrings and necklaces. Eventually, I shaved the sides of my head, in what was essentially a mohawk (but I never wore it up). Boy, did mom and dad love that!!! All pictures of these days should be kept away from my children!!! ---- [Edited 10/5/04 11:54am] Do not hurry yourself in your spirit to become offended, for the taking of offense is what rests in the bosom of the stupid ones.
