However, I've been reading that some people are buying the Japanese version which includes the CD with a few extra tracks, a B-sides/remix CD, and a DVD with all the videos including Personal Jesus and (s)aint. It seems some people are ordering it for about $42 from Amazon Japan. So maybe the DVD can be played here. I'm waiting to hear back from Japan.

Yeah, but they said the DVD only plays on Region 2. http://www.amazon.co.jp There was a guy on Ebay who was selling a copy from Japan but he said it WOULD play in North America. I don't know if he was full of shit or not, but it sold for over $70. I'm gonna wait a bit more for the (s)aint video but I may just give in and get the US version. I received my Manson CD in the mail yesterday. It's just the regular U.S. CD/DVD version with the (s)AINT video on a separate DVD in a plain white sleeve. | |

Agreed. Unfortunately, this is the day and age of gouging consumers for everything they are worth. Look at all the different versions of various DVDs to have come out! DVD isn't even that old of a format, and we already have films that have been released in three or more editions.
In this case, its made even worse by the Japanese record companies. In Japan, many insist on artists turning in a "special" version of an album that is exclusive to that country. I remember reading an interview with Sammy Hagar a few years back about why Van Halen had put an extra track on the Japanese version of their album. He talked, in an obviously annoyed way, about how the Japanese suits were almost ready to refuse to release the album in that country if they didn't get at least one extra track. The band reluctantly obliged, but made sure to put the song on a b-side in the other countires, because they didn't feel it was really fair to the rest of their fans. (I just gotta say, I admire that Prince has consitently refused to give in to this demand). Now, I DO think Manson should have said "whatever" and just given them one extra track on the greates hits or something, and given us everything else. I'd be quite satisfied if the only extra thing on the Japanese version was "Coma White".
