If justice was served, Joy Division would be as popular and respected as Nirvana (mysteriously enough) is.

And yes, I know you were kidding smile

Where is this list from and when was it compiled?

I think the best genre of 80s music was the Power Ballad. You can trace it's roots back to 'Goodbye To Love' by the Carpenters in the 70s but this was it's decade.

I honestly think that 'Goodbye To Love' was one of the touchstones in the progression of popular music.

It was more radical than Smells Like Teen Spirit really. Nobody had put a squealing rock-guitar in the middle of a ballad before. It's fucking genius.

I don't think the next touchstone came until 'Good Times' by Chic.

I think if they would've stuck it out for another couple albums, they might've been. But then we got New Order, so all was not lost.

I think it's classic soap opera melodrama boxed

I do agree that Jim Steinman "perfected" that sound, though.

Love the '80's. Does anyone remember a San Francisco band who hit it BIG in the late '70's and early '80's by the name of J O U R N E Y ?

These guys were great at stadium rock - with Steve Perry's soaring and unique vocal style, and Neal Schon's Santana-like guitar playing (imho he can join the party alongside the likes of Prince, Hendrix, Van Halen, Santana, et al.), they had the makings of a great live band.

Standout tracks from their career include: "Open Arms" (covered by the likes of Mariah Carey), "Only The Young", "Who's Crying Now", "When You Love A Woman", "Send Her My Love" & "Faithfully".

Their 'comeback' album in '96, Trial By Fire, contained some kick-ass rock - staying true to their '80's material but giving it all a new, more mature & harder edge.

They were a good band. Not my favourite, but a good band.
