Brenda Russell

biggrin Any Brenda Fans? I love her work, especially on the earlier albums. although she's probably most famous for "Get Here", and "Piano In The Dark", one of my all-time favorites is her song, "Please Pardon Me" (co-written with her then-husband, Brian Russell). Chaka Khan's version with Rufus is probably the definitive one, though. she also wrote "Dinner with Gershwin" for Donna Summer, and, although I love her original version of "If Only For One Night" better, Luther's version probably reached more listeners...

My favorite tracks:

So Good, So Right
In The Thick Of It
Way Back When
Rainbow
Something I Like To Do
A Little Bit Of Love
God Bless You
If Only For One Night
Please Pardon Me
You're Free
Lucky
Hello, People
It's Something
When I Give My Love To You (with Michael Franks)
Jarreau
I'm Waiting For You
Stay Close
Who Are You
Two Eyes
Dinner With Gershwin

So underrated for her work. But she was always a "songwriter"and not an out there performer. Vandross appeared to stay true to her version of If Only For One Night

Get Here (forget Oleta Adams)
So Good So Right
If Only For One Night
Piano In The Dark
Dinner W/Gershwin

True, I guess she's always been a songwriter, first and foremost...but I love the smoky voice!

Wow, you're on another roll.
Brenda's got the goods. Understated elegance.

I've gotta remember her the next time I go to the rip-off...I mean the CD store. wink

I guess I've gotta get hip to this woman, because I know she's written a lot of stuff that I love. I just never took the time to discover her solo stuff. sigh
