50's RnB Freaks: Do U Guys Remember LaVern Baker?

B4 I go any further, do you guys remember her?

If there was anybody who came after Bessie Smith and tried to portray her vocally while mentaining their individuality it would that bitch.

The 1st record I eva heard by LaVern Baker(in my grandma's house, naturally) was "Whipper Snapper" and of course her infamous "Tweedle Dee".

Goddness, she was a SANGIN' heffa,,,R.I.P.

Anybody else remember her?

Altho its a bit of an over-statment to rank with such pioneers like Billie, Ella, Bessie & Mahalia. It is true, she was one of the 1st female RnB & soul vocalists(Along with Miss Rhythm AKA Ruth Brown) and if it weren't for those 2 ladies, lot of us would've not heard of Aretha, Tina, Patti, Chaka & Dionne.
