Thomas Dolby came to my school!!! Sure he's no Lenny Kravitz but I like him anyway. He was actually here as a speaker for a debate on Music Piracy. He was up again John Perry Barlow, a former Grateful Dead lyricist. Of course, I know of the Grateful Dead, but I had never heard of him before. Anyway, Thomas Dolby was against music piracy and argued his side. John Barlow was for music piracy and argued his side. Some students argued that Thomas should be flattered that people want to hear his music regardless....which I agree. He even admitted that a lot of his stuff is out of print, so that gives us an excuse to pirate his music. I could understand pirating his music and selling it for personal benefits...but that wasn't the case. John Barlow, who was very amusing and funny stated that people enjoying his music is a honor itself and that making money is just a lucky benefit that comes along with it. Anyway, I could go on,but I won't. I was kinda disapointed in the turn out for it....not too many people showed up for it. Which they only advertised it in the school paper. Plus it was a Thursday night, and alot of students who don't have Friday classes go home early for the weekend or out drinking. Not too many people wanted their autographs or pictures either.....I don't think too many people my age know who Thomas Dolby is. My roommate had no clue who either of the speakers were. I managed to get his autograph, but the only form of paper I had on me at the time was a Sports Illustrated campus issue. I felt like an idiot asking him to sign it. looking for you in the woods tonight Switch FC SW-2874-2863-4789 (Rum&Coke)

Thomas "She Blinded Me With Science" Dolby is still around??? I love that song, hell I love 80's music period . That's cool that he came to your school. Since you're into downloading , you should check out "She Blinded Me With Science"...that's was his biggest hit to date and very popular at one time, it's one of my all time favorite songs from that era...you may even be able to find the music video online somewhere. [Edited 9/24/04 9:40am] Ohhh you keep saying stay the niiiiiiiiight

Interesting.
Did anyone get to ask them any musical questions afterwards? What was it like for TD to collaborate with George Clinton, for example? . [Edited 9/24/04 10:11am] ALT+PLS+RTN: Pure as a pane of ice. It's a gift.

I wanted to ask about him and Stevie Wonder, but that might've sounded like I was more interested in Stevie and his music than I was him. Which I would rather talk about Stevie than him. Most people just questioned him on his views on music piracy. They mainly were there for the actual debate. looking for you in the woods tonight Switch FC SW-2874-2863-4789 (Rum&Coke)

BTW, Where do you go to school? I would've loved to have been there!!! It's ashame the turnout was low, that guy's a genius! I'm sure all who attended were enlightend! For the record, Thomas has work that's far superior to "She Blinded Me With Science", Those who don't know should investigate!

Thomas Dolby is a pretty funky. Back in the day, he used to do tracks for a rap group called Houdini . Also, on a award show, he teamed up with Steve Wonder, Herbe Hancock, and Howard Jones and did a jam session. Also, he also worked with George Clinton back in the day. [Edited 9/24/04 12:40pm]

Here I am! Anyways, that was awesome, Anck! Although I am not for his belief in anti-piracy, I still like his tunes. Anybody remeber seeing him in this movie called Rockula? He played the villain. [Edited 9/24/04 17:31pm] NEW WAVE FOREVER: SLAVE TO THE WAVE FROM THE CRADLE TO THE GRAVE.

Aliens Ate My Buick is a pure FUNK album. Y'all should check it out. I loved The Flat Earth as well. "I Scare Myself" was written by Dan Hicks and the Hot Licks. His version is good and the album that the song is on is interesting as well.
