Most valued LP or CD?

What is most valuable recording that you own, a recognized collectable?

Mine would certainly be; "Games, Dames and Guitar Thangs" by Eddie Hazel(in it orignal lp unopened). Yeah I have two of these, a lp like this must be heard. cool

It's a collector's edition box set called

"94 East feat Prince"

I heard this was a one-off release and that only 100 copies of these original
tapes of 94-east feat Prince were ever pressed.

There will never be another re-release of this stuff, nor will it ever be packed
in a slightly different box and offered up for sale again once Prince decides
to release another commercial album.

I think the man who sat on this all that time is called PeePee Willie [sic] and
he seems very sincere. He didn't want to make cash off this record, he just
wanted people to have a chance to hear this bit of forgotten early Prince stuff.

I guess it's funny in a way, that although the man decided to do this all in
artistic integrity and didn't go for commercial success. I mean, because he
only made 100 copies of this material, I am sure I now have a very very very
expensive collector's item in my collection.

And I just KNOW that y'all are jealous of me, ya bitches

Anxiety

my most valued CDs would probably be my limited edition copy of swans' "forever burned" with a hand-cut cover, autographed by michael gira, my super-duper out-of-print copy of sandra bernhard's "without you i'm nothing" CD, and my way-out-of-print import tragic mulatto anthology CD.

My signed TUSK 2-album set. Lindsey Buckingham signed it. It's more special to me because of how I got it...the night last summer in Chicago when he performed at SOUNDSTAGE. After the show he signed my record (and SASSY's too) and gave me ahug and a kiss and I thanked him for singing in his encore (by last-minute request by me and SASSY B) the song "Save Me a Place."

TUSK may be a FLEETWOOD MAC album, but it's LINDSEY's 'baby.' I always felt if there was one album I wanted him to sign, it would be TUSK.

Any one of the following:

1. A 1996 Love To Infinity demonstration disc with unreleased mixes from various artists on it.

2. Madonna's Like A Prayer CD, but the promotional edition complete with the "Facts About AIDS" sheet, the special silksreened gold logo disc, and the patchouli oil scent still on the booklet. This goes for $150+ on eBay. I also have the Express Yourself promo CD.

3. A Janet Jackson All For You 5-track promo acetate with an unreleased mix on it.

4. A Janet Jackson I Get Lonely 7-track promo from Colombia with unreleased mixes on it.

5. An early Japanese promotional pressing (CD) of Donna Summer's Live & More with the full MacArthur Park Suite on it (not the edited version from the Bad Girls Deluxe Edition).

sure. but it will take 10 years to look up every single record of my collection on eBay. I thought rather of some lists by genre, artist or sumthing... would save lotsa time

Not really. You'd still spend a lot of time looking up every single record in a catalogue, and catalogue prices are generally inflated (as are online mail order prices), whereas eBay prices are more indicative of what people will actually pay.

If you really want to save time, you can try looking on http://eil.com/. Just do a search and available items will be shown. You can search the full discography by clicking "click for full discography" at the top of a list of items.

That's not the most comprehensive online retailer, but it is the most easily searchable (I really don't recommend attempting to sift through the mess that is http://www.gemm.com, for example).

Janet Jackson - Rhythm Nation: The Remixes EP (Maxi-Single) (on CD)

This sells for upwards of $120 on eBay and I randomly bought it at some (now out of business) indie record store in Redondo Beach for 99¢!

Joan Armatrading - Secret Secrets (1985) (on CD)

This out-of-print Joan album is ULTRA RARE on CD, so much so that I had to buy it from someone in Australia. It sells for a minimum of $50-60 on eBay.

Other goodies:

Joan Armatrading - The Key (1982) (Out-of-print, RARE, on CD)
(PERSONAL VALUE) Autographed Backroom Matches Sota! CD (only a few copies of this CD remain because the artists' house burned down and all of his CDs too. This is an original before the fire. Less than 500 remain. Swedish. Underground hip hop group.)
Autographed Meshell Ndegeocello's Cookie: The Anthropological Mixtape
Autographed Japanese Import of Kelis' Wanderland

You can actually get the RN disc for between $20 and $35. It's not as rare as it was a few years back (more Japanese sellers).

Hmmm... I think it was a year ago when a copy of that single was going for about $115-120. I'm guessing the price fluctuates.

Now, what I really want is that "Come Back To Me" (Japanese Maxi). I need to really sit down on eBay one day and diligently bid for that one! I want the "Abandoned Heart Remix" so bad.

Do you have this single?

Yes, I do. That mix is also on the US promo CD. Very pretty, essentially an acapella. If you get the Japanese disc you'll also get The Skin Game (+ Instrumental) as well as Vuelve A Mi (Castillian).

Actually, it was about a year ago when the Japanese discs started to become more common on eBay. You can pretty much bet that all of the Rhythm Nation Japanese maxis (all 8 of them) will be on sale each week at very affordable prices, with multiple copies available. The one that still manages to fetch a high price is LWND(WY), which I've seen go for $100+, but only once.

my most valued disc is a 45. it is a frank zappa single from 1963 before he formed the mothers, released on "origianl sound" records. he was a struggling musician, and put together a few projects prior to the mothers. the group doesn't have a name listed of the the record, and it's all that project ever released.
the songs are:
a) mr. clean
b) jessie lee

it is very rare, and it is very good (for 1963 rock and roll) it is sort of bluesy, surf/doo wop with a hard edge.

Eil.com is a great place to purchase rare & out-of-print items, however, they are often expensive...

At the time, Non-American LPs didnt contain single trax. This is why this album, and other LPs of that time ,such as those of the Beatles or the Rolling Stones, often had different tracklists than American editions.
