Is it his fault that people misinterpret him? Especially since he's said in interviews and in his lyrics that his music IS misinterpretted.

Tell me honestly that calling him gay isn't a way to demean him. I think that that's more detrimental and reinforces stereotypes much worse than anything Eminem's said. When people who claim to hate prejudice make fun of a homophobic person by calling them a closetted gay is just hypocritical in my book, EVEN if you are gay or bisexual (doesn't make you immune to criticism, people are complicit with stereotypes and prejudices all the time).

No, it's not his fault that people misinterpret his lyrics. But considering the mentality of some of his fans, he should be more responsible. I personally who know people who have been bashed by Eminem fans who think he's enouraging homophobia. You can't tell me it doesn't happen.

Saying he's gay isn't meant to deman him in any way, believe me, nor am I saying it to make fun of him. It's the truth that a lot of overtly homophobic people are themselves struggling with their own homosexual feelings.

I do realize that. However, it is a stereotype, even if it has its basis. I'm not saying you necessarily are trying to make fun of him, but I get the feeling that a lot of people on this site, and in general, are "accusing" him of being gay as a way of demeaning him.

what I can do is draw attention to the fact that it isn't a good thing to do. If Eminem is gay (which I really doubt), than that's fine. But when people who dislike/hate him propose the theory that he's gay as a means of insulting him that reinforces the notion that homosexuality is an insult and I think, whether they realize it or not, is hypocritical to do.

What you say is true, but I guess what I'm getting at is people are people. People are hypocritical. People are mean and insulting. It's best to just ignore them if possible.

I don't see homosexuality as an insult. In fact, I see it as a complement. But in his case, I know he sees it as an insult, so when I say he's in the closet, it IS meant to hurt and demean him. He's doing it to others, it needs to be done to him.

As for his sexuality, I'm not saying he's in the closet just to hurt him (that's only a fringe benefit of it). The world is full of bisexual closeted men that act and behave just like he does. It wouldn't surprise me at all if he was one of them. I blame the gay men that sleep with these closeted men that talk that shit. They need to get some pride and only sleep with these men as a way of getting ammunition to bust them out. They need to wake up and bust these men out of the closet and they will stop talking that shit.

Rationalize it all you want, I still find it hypocritical to use gay as insult. Besides which, as I and others have said before. EMINEM IS NOT SERIOUS, the homophobic remarks he makes are sarcastic and frankly are so over the top that it boggles my mind that people take them seriously. Geez' it's a shame Em isn't as talented as Frank Zappa, otherwise he wouldn't be getting all this misplaced heat.
