Madonna's got her shadow...whose Janet's?

Coming from the thread that questioned the comparision btwn Madge and Nipplegate, *whom I BOTH like*...I thought "Well, we all know that Britney is Madonna's faithful coattailer, so who is officially Janet's?"
Beyonce...NO...Alicia....NO...Brandy...NO...Monica...NO...Christina Milian...NO... hmmm

Nia Peeples was considered a wanna be Janet when she busted out....A lot of people thought Jody Watley was Janet when her first song came out....But Jody sorta found her own awesome style after that....

Pebbles....Karyn White.....

right now? I actually think Britney owes more of her career to Janet then Madonna.....Her militant dancing style and r&b heavy pop is nothing like Madge....

Madges closest shadow had to have been Regina..

I agree with everything sosgemini said.

Mya is Janet's shadow? Not really. She lifts most of her junk from the new fish -- Brandy & Monica.

Let me also add that if you saw the Karyn White ("Secret Rendezvous") video, that girl was jockin' Janet majorly. Also, Jody Watley had a lot of Janet-isms going on in the late 80s.

Tracie Spencer and her "Make The Difference" album back in 1990 was a total study in Janet from "This House," "Tender Kisses," "This Time Make It Funky," to "Double O Rhythm" (the "Rhythm Nation" knock-off, equipped with a similar credo opening). Her whole image when she first dropped was designed off of Janet's Control & RN1814.

Even Shanice was shadowing, too, back in the early '90s with "I Love Your Smile," her laughing and giggling and the song "It's For You" from the Meteor Man SDTK.

As far as nowadays, Aaliyah was next in line to be Janet's shadow, and she definitely would've fulfilled the promise for this generation, but she was tragically killed. Rest in peace.

check your history....jody whately hit the scene with her own style in 1985, before janets "control" late (1986/87) with her dancing and stylish videos. review that to see who copied who. jody rocked in the mid eighties.

i didn't say britney does it well...just that she clearly imitates miss jackson's style more than madonna's.

I'd agree with that. The "Britney" album sounds a lot like Janet's "All For You", released 6 or so months later.

If you read ehuffnsd's post very closely you can clearly see that he's insinuating something.

If you get inside the mind of some Maddy fans you can read them very clearly. Take another glance at ehuffnsd's post. It's full of loaded language. The post is implying that Britney has more in common with Janet because, in his logic, she's just some pop tart making meaningless, fluff music. Hence, Janet makes that kind of music, too, so he's enigmatically suggesting they're in the same company. Of course, in Maddy-fan-logic, Britney couldn't possibly be compared to Madonna because Maddy's music is distinguished, message-ladened art of the highest calibre. So in a way, ehuffnsd is trying to throw Britney off to Janet, in turn, pumping up Madonna even more.

HA!

Sorry, Xtina has more in common vocally with Whitney Houston and Mariah Carey than she will ever have with Madonna. If you want to talk about wearing panties on-stage and sour relationships with biological fathers, then yeah, they have that in common (but Mariah has those things, too). I don't know where the Pink/Maddy comparison came from -- because wasn't that chick all up on 4 Non Blondes as a child and cited them as a major creative influence/inspiration (she's said so in countless interviews and she even enlisted Linda Perry for her sophomore LP... matter of fact, Xtina did, too!) I think you mean this...

P!nk and Xtina have more in common with Linda Perry than Madonna.

In addition, P!nk performed a dance tribute for Janet at her MTV Icon ceremony.

I'd say Aaliyah and Beyonce are most similar in flavor to Janet.

So? Britney and Christina payed tribute to Madonna singing "like a virgin" and doing the whole roleplay from the 1985 MTV awards.
Had Madonna had a tribute im sure those young broads including Pink would pay tribute to Madonna.
Pink, Britney, Avril Lavigne and Chrsitina all said they look up to Madonna as a role model, not just because of the sexuality but because she is smart, strong, and has major success and longevity they wish to have and follow. So in that sence they are in Madonna's shadow. Musically britney's current album is more like janet and christina more like whitney. Pink i can see being Madonna but she sucks ass at it. No one can really copy Madonna musically because she has changed her style so many times. Most young broads of today's generation look up to Madonna.
