Did any artist ever influence the way u dressed?

When Madonna hit with "Like A Virgin", so many girls at my school dressed like her EVERYDAY. When I was in Jr.high and high school, I was the spitting image of Dez with Jessie's hair. I had two trenchcoats with the studs on one shoulder, 12 rudeboy buttons down on the other side. One was navy blue and the other was gray. I even glued white guitar picks on the other shoulder on the gray one just like Dez did during the Dirty Mind period. There was a little mob of us who were P fans called "The Rudes". The girls would wear purple jeans, a Contoversy Tour shirt, with a purple bandana and lace gloves. Some of them would streak their hair purple. I still have the cap that looked just like the cap P wore in the Automatic video. I used to wear that to school. I had a rudeboy button attached to it. Girls were always taking my buttons off of my coat or just wearing my coat. It was cool to see different girls wearing my coats around school. Then u had the "Duranies" who dressed up like Duran Duran. Who did u dress like?

I have these two leather jackets, one red like the one MJ wore in the Beat It video, and one red and black like the one in the Thriller video. Im a 80's nut when it comes to the fashion, I also find myself soemtimes dressing like Jill Jones.

LOL I never wore the sequined glove, but I wear black or white lace ones sometimes. I recently realized they are like the ones P wears in PR.

Er, the closest I got was Janet Jackson from Diff'rent Strokes. The long prarie skirt with victorian blouse long or short poofy sleeves. That was for school but on weekends it was the jeans and a low hanging fancy belt of some sort somewhere between Janet and MJ's Beat It, hoop earrings accompanied with key to mail box.

But oh how I longed for those furry black boots she wore on American Bandstand during Young Love. wink

Robert Smith (to a T) lol

and....

I know it's not really dressed like one particular person, but I was really into the whole 2-tone, ska scene. You know: Doc Martens, the short plaid pleated skirts, colored tights, flight jackets, Creepers, etc.

I know the look. I knew a lot of people that dressed like that. At my school, at Fairfax High, Hollywood High, Venice High, and all over in the Valley, that was very popular in Southern cal at that time.

Prince, pimps, and punk rockers have probably influenced my style the most. I like to mix pimp, punk, and glam. I love trench coats of any kind, especially black leather. I like full length furs, leather pants, cowl neck sweaters, anything leopard print, zebra print, tiger print, spiked chokers, ankle boots.....basically anything wild.

As far as the hair goes, it has been every color of the rainbow, as well as every style imaginable. It has been spiked, curled, braided, layered, shaved up one side, finger waved, permed.....you name it, I've done it.

As for cars.....only Cadillacs will do.

It wasn't popular at all in Mpls. at the time. There was just a small group of us that were into that whole scene.

When RUN-DMC ahd thir deal with adidas, I was fifteen, and not knowing better, I wanted to buy only adidas gear. And also during the hip hop heydays, I wore a Kangol, Pumas with fat laces, the first edition of Air Jordans and all things considered cool in hip hop. Boy, those were the days. biggrin

From a fashion stand point, I must say that prince,MJ, Sade, Grace Jones, Bowie, and Patti Labelle influenced me fashion wise. Being the versatile women that I am, I embrace all kind of styles. I dig wearing leather pants/mini skirts, fishnet stockings, furs, suits, tennis shoes (rarely), and heels.

hmmm

I guess the whole Smashing Pumpkins era was kinda spooky with me running around
looking like Billy Corgan's deranged kid brother.

Thank god I've never been able to locate those shiny silver pants when I wanted to.
But that was all the way back in ehm, what was it, 1994/1995 ??

I liked Jamiroquai's style back in the day as well. I remember being over-joyed when
I went to Camden market and bought me several pairs of those velvetish 60's kind
of black and dark blue trousers with some adidas sneakers. LOL.

Beyond that, I guess the guy from Coldplay has a nice style. Whenever I see him on
telly he's always wearing something I'd like to tear off him.
and true love lives on lollipops and crisps

JANFAN4L

When I saw the Janet's Velvet Rope world tour, there was this segment when Jan and the kids were dancing to throb and they had on Adidas gear (track pants, shoes and shirts). I bought some Adidas track pants and some cross-trainers after watching that and I dance with that on.

No offence, but did Jimmi ever look any different to his hippy clothes? Maybe in his early "backing band" days huh? Anyone got any of those pics?
