black rock faves

I've made a Black rock compilation.I've gotten 2 discs done so far.

Disc1
maggot brain-funkadelic
john connelly's theory-24/7 spyz
fearless vampire killers-bad brains
social plague-24/7 spyz
love rears its ugly head-living colour
venus in furs-eye and i
known unknown-vernon reid
fool's paradise-jesse johnson
i'm yours-prince
red hot momma-funkadelic
minister of rock-n-roll-lenny kravitz
bambi-prince(the undertaker version)
she kissed me-ttd
mickey's monkey-mothers finest
lap dance-nerd
banned in dc-bad brains
deathstyle-24/7 spyz
fight the youth-fishbone

disc2

hey baby(new rising sun)-j hendrix
housework-fishbone
sister-prince
one day-fishbone
ground on down-ben harper
alligator woman-cameo
hangover number nine-chocolate genius
time-follow for now
hero in me-jeffrey gaines
no compute-funkadelic
joy in repetition-prince(it ain't over version)
who knows-band of gypsys
she wants to move-nerd
cult of personality-living colour

I think this may go on a while. This is what I have so far.I also want to do an electric jazz compilation..then,maybe a "mysterious" song comp. And I know some of my choices may be a little crazy, but I wanted to keep variety going and also keep myself from being bored.

Oh. My. Gawsh.

All of the first 2 Living Colour albums. All of those 2. But, in particular:

Time's Up -- it funks as hard as it rocks.
Broken Hearts

And, the opening track on Corey Glover's "Hymns" CD. shake I'm not ready. I'm still not ready for that.

What a voice.

But, this album, for me, is tops when it comes to funky rock. Yes, even higher than P's stuff:
Fishbone's Give a Monkey a Brain... album.

Tracks from Jesse Johnson's 'Bare My Naked Soul' album should be included. I particularly loved his song "Everybody Needs A Dream" which was the b-side to his single "My Life".

Roachford would also be a good choice for the comp.

This is a hot disc! Throw in some Skunk Anansie(anything from Post Orgasmic Chill) Some Brains(SHe's Calling YOu), maybe..Santana/Corey Glover/Stanley Clarke/Tony Williams(Spanish Castle Magic) and you may have to burn me a copy of this! headbang

PhilG

There's an old hardcore/punk band from Philly called YDI that had a black singer & drummer.Their old material has recently been reissued. They started as a straight up HC band but ended sounding more metal on their 2nd LP.Not for everybody but I love it.

Oh, there was another all black Punk band from Philly that released a 7" from 1978 & they were called Pure Hell.

Yeah.I remember when Is aw Living Colour in concert. They were incredible!!And Corey went off on vocals!!He really showed me something that night! He even did a damned gospel workout on his voice that brought the house down. That was such a fantastic show.

You know I've never herad Roachford, but remember seeing that name and had it checked as a band to give a shot.I still need to do that. And I agree I will add more Jesse.I have a live concert of his ,but it's not great quality sound.

I picked up the Stiffed CD after reading positive reviews in Spin and Alternative Press. It's a great EP of post-punk/new wave.
